Rattling noise (drivetrain?)

Featured Replies

A new noise has appeared. :(

The front ARB collar broke a week ago, we fixed it in the workshop yesterday by fashioning a new collar from brass and inserted it - all is well.

Today, I notice a slightly rattling noise, sounds a bit like it might be drivetrain (but can't be certain). Seems to make the most noise when allowing the car to engine brake downhill, but it also makes the noise when you change gear (i.e., power coming on and off). It's not massively loud, but it's noticeable.

I've tried driving in circles on full lock both ways so I don't think it's the CV joints, nothing slips under full load - just the noise.

It also seems to make it a bit over sharp bumps in the road too.

Has anyone got any ideas? Could it be the ARB?

Thanks in advance. :)

sounds like you may have a stone trapped in the engine bay somewhere.....

Check the tray under the engine as well....

Update: after driving around for 20 mins trying to work out what the noise was, I had a brainwave, zipped home and squirted a bit of WD40 into the new ARB insert. Hey presto, silence! I think it was the brass jerking against the ARB but it's sorted now. :)

I am unbelievably relieved!!!
