Assist Systems Help Please

Featured Replies

Could someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong.  I have 3 assist systems, blind spot, rear traffic Al and front assist.   I have set them to ‘on’ via the steering wheel controls and via the infotainment system, however, each time I get back in the car the blind spot and rear traffic Al are disabled (the front assist always remains activated).

very grateful if someone could tell me what I’m doing wrong?

Not sure you are doing anything wrong, it could be a fault. The only time the rear traffic alert and blind spot monitoring (which in fact are the same bit of hardware) turn themselves off automatically is when you connect up a trailer, ie plug Into the tow bar socket (if you have one).

Thanks, I have a factory fitted towbar but not connected to a trailer, I’ll get on to the dealer, many thanks.

Leaving the so-called "front assist" on. ;)

As an aside it is a poor bit of design - not that turning off the RTA and BSM when plugging in a trailer isn’t sensible - it is! But when you unplug the trailer, switch off the car, restart again the next day, the RTA and BSM remain deactivated unless you remember to re-activate them. Which usually I don’t! One does tend to become accustomed to (aka somewhat rely on) these safety features and not getting eg the expected beeping when reversing out of a supermarket car park space into the path of another car, is …  “disconcerting”!

I haven’t connected my caravan or trailer, are you saying it’s a fault? The car is under warranty?

This is not my experience. I never have to reactivate any systems after using my towbar-mounted bike rack (which plugs in)

Genuine tow bar or aftermarket?

So are we saying that my issue is related to a possible fault on my factory fitted tow bar?  My car is on an extended warranty.

Genuine

"Front Assist" is the system that randomly stops you overtaking, and slams on the brakes when it thinks a crisp packet is about to run into the road in front of you.

Just to add, went out tonight to try a few things, once I set the assist items then put the car into reverse it disables both assists, if I then re-set them they work fine until I engage reverse again.
I’ll ring the Skoda dealership tomorrow…..

I fear something is going wrong. Both RTA and BSM remain active even if I use reverse gear on mine. By the way, the RTA should remain active upon reverse gear engaged. It's even in such situation that RTA is really useful. Otherwise, RTA is really useless if it deactivates upon reverse gear... 😕

There will be a fault in the system and that is why it’s disabling itself. Will need scanning for fault codes next

Interesting! Yours is a much younger car than mine, maybe they fixed the poor design? My tow bar was factory fitted, only the reversing camera was added after build, but installed by a main dealer and seems to be the genuine bit of kit.

Just a quick update on this.  I eventually got a slot at my local Skoda dealer to investigate this issue, the fault was constant where I had to reset the blind spot monitor and rear traffic alert after every time I selected reverse gear, it even happened at the dealership when I arrived.

after a few hours I got a call from the dealership saying there was nothing wrong with the systems and they said the issue was me not setting the 2 driver alerts on the steering wheel !!  I was gobsmacked, it was as if they were saying I was at fault!  On arrival at the dealership, I tried engaging reverse and the systems remained active (first time in 3 months!).

I can’t believe the systems would have just righted themselves at the dealership, nor can I believe the dealership would have identified the fault and fixed it but then tell me they hadn’t done anything!  Very strange………
