skf and other brands  why does it not come with w/p belt  if time for cam belt why would not replace the water pump belt

If it's the small cc petrol EA211 engine (1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5) the water pump and belt is at the rear of the engine so it's a totally different job.

sorry i know were the water pump is gearbox end it just i have just replaced the timing belt etc over the weekend and removing the water pump top cover for the locking tool i notice the cover had a lot of condensation which would be why i can smell a water leak and yet not using any water or find any leaks  so my view is remove the pump check it out  its just looking at replacement water pump none come with belt seems odd to me as if anything that belt is subjected to heat and water contamination after all if timing belts is subjected to years or mileage what makes the w/p belt  so good that its not part of the kit  

I think the water pump belt is supposed to be fit for life!! However the water pump seals are known to fail so it's probably a good idea to replace whole pump /belt assembly anyway.

 

My son has just had the cambelt replaced on his 1.2tsi - maybe time to do the water pump as well!

I'm guessing the water pump belt has a lot less stress on it compared to a timing belt. If the pump failed at an early age it may not be neccessary to replace the belt, hence it being sold separately.

you still havent answered what engine were talking here but im assuming a 1.2/1.4 petrol? if so... the water pump belt is under a lot less stress, no reason it should fail, its not under tension either. and worst case if it did fail its not catastrophic, youd get a engine overheat - stop message.

I have taking the belt cover top off and run the engine up to temp and i can see small amount of steam coming out therefore the pump / seal clearly weeping  slightly

So i have ordered skf pump with housing (not with outer plastic cover) and a gates belt. 

in case anybody  asks engine 67000 miles odd
