Looking at buying a new Octavia

SWMBO's Fabia is up for renewal so we decided to test drive a used 2.0 tdi Sport hatch in Black Magic. It's covered 14500 miles and is a 05 plate.

Sounds about right to me mate. I paid

A bit like this one?

Different approach Des, Give her the 'Beast' and trade the Fabia for a MkII Octy vRS and start modifying all over again, you know you want to ;) :P

Edit: As for the described car, sounds pretty good and reasonably priced but reckon there may be room for a 'deal'. Nothing to look out for as far as I know, but what 'extras' are on it as the Sport spec is a bit frugal to say the least (internally it's essentially an Ambiente)!.

Give SWMBO The Red Devil, lol.......Have you every been in this thing. :noon:

Once the news broke of the new RS launch I was shown some pics of a kitted up WRC style RS and it looked the nuts. This was supposed to be the new RS, I was praying they would launch that car. Even when they released the spy shots I thought, hehe that's not it. I was gutted when I clapped eyes on the official photo's and then I saw the car in the flesh I just didn't get it. Don't get me wrong the new Octavia is a fantastic drive and for the price you just can't get near it. Skoda had an opportunity here but they wimped out and played safe. Take a look at nearly all the other hot hatch manufacturers like Ford, Vauxhall, Honda etc, even Seat they all look to the future. What do Skoda do, take ten steps backward and make it look like a old Volvo, brilliant.

.......As you can guess I will not be getting a new RS. Apart from looks it's better in every way than the old one, untill you realise they have refined the soul out of it. :grumpy:

I agree with pretty much everything you say there Des. As much as I love my car I do think Skoda missed an opportunity on the styling front.

Saying all that, Skoda will probably sell shed loads of them as it's still a very good car. Suppose that's the name of the game really.

Octy sport is a great package. We took one for a test drive when we were thinking of trading the Octy 4x4 but in the end we decided to keep the old one a bit longer and have some fun with it.

The Octy sport if anything... looks a bit better than the RS IMHO as the sport has a 'refined' body kit which looks classy and doesn't need adding to, where as the RS has the spoilers etc. but just not enough.

And that boot.... massive!!!!

Good luck in your purchase.

I'm not so sure they did.

They are very much aiming to be a mainstream manufacturer , both for the standard cars and performance versions.

The vrs is aimed at people wanting a rapid but practical car (like it says in the adverts) and isn't intended to compete directly with Evos and Imprezas dripping in bodykits

Aye, but the styling could have been a little more adventurous. I remember seeing a photoshop piccy with the twin exhaust 'flattened' and down the centre rather than the more standard configuration they ended up with.

This beauty!

Speaking to my local dealer the other day and he reckons the Octy vrs is not selling well, he also said the Octy vrs diesel will only be available as an estate when first released because of low sales of the petrol hatchback.

Of course he may be talking bollards, just his two pence worth.

Dealers not having a clue about what's soon to be on sale...?

Oh that's your game is it, kick a man when he's down. ;) I believe that's the work of one of our own.

If the likes of BMW and Audi can build a family saloon that looks low why can't Skoda. Instead we have the agricultural look, nice going. Not wishing to compare the vRS to a Subaru or an Evo but it does have the same ride height.

Skoda if you are looking in take a good long hard look at the pic above, you may learn a thing or two. :P

........Oh and get rid of that stupid bonnet and front end. It looks like a grinning Wallis (and Grommet).

This beauty!

That's the one, why oh why couldn't they have done this?.

Update,

Looks like the dealer is willing to throw in rear parking sensors and CC.

So that's

Hmm, with my mileage that would make a splendid car for me.

I'll have to take a look at these second hand bargains I think.

Who are you trying to convince Des?. ;)
