Infotainment updates

Featured Replies

How are you meant to update your infotainment? I start driving, update flashes up, click ok…can’t update while driving. So I stop at destination but no option to start update and no update in system information is there to select. Switch off. Start again and mid drive update pops up again and repeat…

Tried sitting on the drive with ignition on for ten minutes but wouldn’t pop up. Start driving and it’s there again…

Swipe down from the top of the screen for the quick access / notifications. Select notifications, and there should be one about the update. From there, you can get to the update and start it.

Well thanks that’s solved it. It was taking a while for notifications to load seemingly which is why when I tried going there it was empty. But just waited a minute and sure enough it popped up as a notification and is now installed.

Cheers, never knew that. I used to just leave the message on screen then whenever the car came to a halt ( say at traffic lights or wherever), just put the gearbox in to P and action the message. Once the update has been initiated you can continue driving and it works away in the background.

Another question. I have finally managed to get my Skoda connect activated. What a palaver.

The main reason I wanted to do it was key personalisation. I have personalisation activated but no option in the vehicle menu or any other menu.

Is this something I can do or just not in spec?

Setting up personalisation was so intuative in my previous car, but with MIB3 on MY21 onwards it's a right pain-in-the-arse to get working. I think Venus has to be aligned in a straight line with Mercury and Mars before the personalisation option works.

You say it's activated ( there is no menu option I came across ).  If it's activated then it will detect you ( and greet you ) when you enter the car using your registered key.  On MIB3 equipped cars you'll need to set up a Skoda Connect account for each person - i.e. they need to have a seperate email address.  Once they're registered then you ned to go thru that palaver again for each key holder. It takes feck'n ages!

Of course you must remember to keep your own key well out of range when setting up another user. All works perfectly well when it's setup but have to admit, it took me hours of trial and error to get the thing working correctly. With the old MIB2 system, it take less than a minute to allocate 3 keys to different people.

Thanks. I have I think sorted it. To do so I had to do a factory reset and start again.

The problem was that when I picked the car up the connect registration got almost to the end then failed. The dealer thought it was a signal issue so I went home to try but it still failed. Then I managed to find somewhere with really strong signal and completed the registration. But the half failed first attempt had turned on some of the connect services but not others but the profile could not be set as primary user. This meant the seat was locked to some odd position for my profile and no matter what I did it wouldn’t fix itself. Every time I signed in the seat back reclines itself almost all the way.

Factor reset and setup my profile again and now it’s working as expected and as you described. Personalisation is activated and you can see it under the menu with privacy settings as it shows there all the services that are either turned off, blocked because you’ve not registered or activated.

My only issue is that before the factory reset the car has downloaded an update. But since I’ve done the reset it’s not finding that same update again. And I think there is one as the home menu edit is the bottom of each icon rather than the symbol which I think means it’s on the factory software rather than the newer version. I’m hoping it will pop up at some point.

And all because some marketing executive heard the word 'Cloud' and thought that would be a good idea....

Unless you drive a fleet of Skodas, I have no idea why there's any need to sync a profile to the cloud. Sure, as a backup, but do it in the background, not whilst trying to switch user before starting on a journey, only to wait 10 minutes while it tries, then fails, and you end up just using the current profile.

I ordered it, based mainly on the description in the out of date manual which with a hard coded key made so much sense, so that we each had a key and the seat would move on unlocking. It worked, for a while, but the keys got out of sync. I have now deleted her profile and we just have mine, and use the memory button if we need to change the seat position. All the other limited personalisation features (radio, temp etc) are easily adjustable.

Funny you say that. I seem to remember getting in to a loop where as you say, the registration process kept failing. Given the point of failure, if I were to take a guess, it was as if the software within the infortainment or Skoda Connect had put a block on the email address I'd been using. So I just used an alternative email address and hey presto it worked. If anyone is having similar problems, it's worth a try.

My guess is it transfers profile data to the cloud and then secure account data to the backend and if the signal (e sim is slow anyway) isn’t absolutely perfect it fails. Lots of these processes now time out due to server security if they take too long. And once that has happened my guess is there is no easy fix other than deleting the profile and starting again. I had to connect car to my phone Wi-Fi via hotspot and drive round the block where I have full 5G signal and the process then was able to complete.

I might be wrong - but I'm pretty sure the Connect stuff only uses the built-in SIM... even if you connect the car to your phone. Driving to where your phone gets a good signal probably also meant that the car itself also had a good signal there.

No it will use the inbuilt sim or the WiFi connection whichever is active.

You are right that the inbuilt signal would also be better but the speed of it is slow. My phone on 5G completed the user process in a minute once I’d got the signal.

I seem to remember the process being fairly quick for me when it worked, and I used the built-in SIM. I'll ignore the fact it didn't work the first two times I tried it 😉.

As for 5G... it'll probably turn up round me when the rest of the country is already rolling out 6G.

Just a reminder, with personalisation you need to use both keys frequently otherwise great man in cloud says I do not recognise you and you have to relog in remembering your password! At least it does not have to be 16 digits long  alphanumeric etc. Yet. All part of VW's view of security which just makes life difficult for you.
