SEAT brace - changing air filter

Featured Replies

Hi

I fitted the SEAT strut brace a while back (fab little mod!:D ), and now I want to change the air filter:( .

Not owning a torque wrench,I don't really want to loosen the strut brace bolts and am willing to fiddle/lose some more knuckle skin.;)

Can anyone suggest in detail how to go about it? (I'm lucky compared to others I've read about on some posts - I have an airgap of about 3cm between the brace and the airbox)

Another question - has anyone modified the airbox hinge to allow it to lift straight up say 2cm to allow the cover to be removed that way? (I need to look, if there's enough material theoretically a hinge could be drilled to accept a nut and bolt and the locking plastic hinge bit could be dremelled off....) Such a mod would help with more frequent/easier filter cleaning.

Cheers,

Bas

I found the easier way was to remove the 10mm bolt at the front and the airpipe and take the whole box out. Change the filter on the floor and refit.

I was in a similar position when I needed to clean my Green filter, except the clearance to my strut brace was around 2cm. I managed to manouevre the lid of the air box enough to get the panel filter out to clean and then back in to refit, but it was a lot of effort and I lost a lot of skin that day lol!

I invested in a cheap torque wrench from Screwfix after that which makes the job much easier and quicker
