Apec brakes advice needed

Featured Replies

Hello all

i have 2015 Octavia 1.6TDI 105hp dsg box just had mot and told needs pads all round but discs are fine.

They only quoted me for apec brakes as that’s what they recommend but never heard of them.

can anyone please offer any help or offer alternatives

Also having trouble getting the right sizes for discs from 276/288/312 or 344mm front and 253/276mm on rear I tried finding PR codes but nothing matches on boot label to what euro parts etc have

appreciate your help please

Apec Automotive is a parts manufacturer from Filton in Bristol. I'd never heard of them but found their website using a Google search.

I've just had some TRW pads fitted and finding them excellent.

Also, if you go back on previous post's and find "Brake Disc Size" this will help.

There's also a guy in, I think Italy, who can give you all the build numbers for you car for €3. I carnt find the post with it in at the moment, maybe someone else can.

Search "vin skoda decoder" on ebay to find the listing for build codes.

The Octavia MK3 1.6TDI 105HP probably has either 276mm (build code 1ZF) or 288mm (build code 1ZE) front brakes, and 253mm (build code 1KD) rear brakes.

@Felfaboccydid the car pass the MOT ok and this is an Advisory on the brake pads.  ?  How much did they quote and have you actually looked at the pads? Checked them.    Ps. Time for a brake fluid changed maybe if not find since 2015, or at least testing the brake fluid for H2O.

If the MOT was at a dealer then get a second opinion, sadly it's not unusual for pad wear to be advised as a problem but when checked by another place they confirm there is no need to replace the pads.

My most extreme personal experience was a dealer who told me I needed new pads and discs but a second opinion said the pads were only 25% worn and the discs even less (I am very gentle on the brakes) - it was 3 years later when I actually needed to replace the pads (but not the discs).
