Braking issue query??

Featured Replies

Good evening peeps,

still having glow plug light flashing issue,,, but I’ve noticed that if I give my car a good thrashing sometimes when I apply the brake pedal it feels like their is nothing there?? Sort of like when it’s pressed no matter how hard I press it the car struggles to slow down,, bit like if you have air in them or there’s a leak 🤣,, pedal is absolutely fine any other time stays solid when pressed doesn’t gradually go to floor,, any ideas as a starting point where to look

thanks peeps

Check the tandem pump vacuum spigot fitting for looseness, it's a known area for a leak, as is a split in the rigid plastic pipe to the brake servo where it joins the rubber pipe from the tandem pump.

A loss of vacuum in the system will effectively reduce brake servo assist and reduce correct turbo VNT operation leading to an over-boost condition and engine limp mode/EML.

is it this bit circled in blue ?? The white/grey cap thing seems loose ?? Rattles if you touch it,, when I did the inlet maybe I’ve moved or split something when moving it out the way, I’ll have a really good look at all the pipes tomorrow when I get to work

thanks mate,,

Not specifying your engine size/code has changed the advice slightly, research now shows the loose part is not applicable to you, however you should still thoroughly check the vacuum lines and connections for splits.

The loose part previously mentioned is only applicable to 1.9 engines and is shown in this video (2.0 engines have a pump with a screw fitting instead of being crimped), however a satisfactory fix can be made in situ by a generous application of silicone RTV around the crimped vacuum fitting and a split section of rigid line going to the brake servo, usually at the T-fitting can be cut out and a rubber hose external sleeve fitted... alternatively buy a new pipe.
