E5 or E10?

Featured Replies

Hi all

A quick sanity check. I’ve got a 1.5 TSI Karoq, am I correct in sticking E10 petrol in it?
Thanks in advance.

Many thanks!

E10 is fine for use in your 1.5 Tsi. You may find you get better fuel consumption and other benefits using slightly more expensive Tesco Momentum E5 or similar .

When I bought my 2.0TSI I thought I'd treat it by using E5, but with the recent price increases I've decided to save money by using E10 instead. (For me that's about £1.93 per litre instead of £2.00.) I record my fuel consumption each time I refill and can't see any difference in fuel economy, or if there is it's been masked by the difference in the trips I'm making. :)

Just for info. We have just come back from a trip to Austria in our Karoq. In many German filling stations there is a hoice of 95 E10, 95 E5 and 98 E5. As we have E10 here, this is what I used, and it is about 6 cents per litre cheaper than 95 E5. Still got well over an indicated 52mpg (haven't had the opportunity to do fuel calculations yet) Not only is E 10 cheaper than E 5, but it was only 1.69 euros/litre, ony about £1.44/litre. After many years of diesel in Germany being more expensive than petrol, it seems it is very much the other way round now.

@ColchristieIf you do buy E5 then as well to know who sells what and where around the UK.
