Sunroof noise issue resolved

Featured Replies

Sharing this for the benefit of others who have spent countless hours searching google for solutions…..

I’ve had my vRS for 3 years since new and the sunroof has been a problem since day 1. Very noisy over bumps and anytime their was any flex in the chassis e.g. change in road surface, going in and out of driveways, etc. The noise was sometimes like rubber on rubber, other times short and sharp as if it were rough metal rubbing against rough metal. Skoda made numerous attempts to fix it, lubricating this and that, and sometimes there would be an improvement and then the noise would soon return. They even replaced the entire sunroof with a completely new one. Two weeks ago the car went in for service and they finally fixed it by tightening the sunroof fixtures (where the sunroof cassette is fixed to the chassis) by x% more than specification, as instructed by Skoda global head office. My car is finally silent.

i hope this helps others as I know it’s a problem that afflicts many vag models.

G'day mate,

Thank you for sharing that. Do you perhaps know if this was part of a VAG technical bulletin? I have had similar issues with my Superb and they stated in their repair notes "tightened some bolts" which is pretty vague. This did indeed fix the issue for about a month, but since then the problem has returned.

If there is a technical bulletin for this issue, at least I can try and see whether this can be reinvestigated by the dealer. I suspect that if this is new information, then they can at least have another go at fixing it.

Also, which Skoda dealer did the repair for you?

Cheers!

Hi. Not sure if there is a bulletin for this. Sydney City Skoda at Botany is the dealer. Good luck.
