Help: Choosing Used Alloys for MK2 vRS

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

This forum has been a ton of help to me. I just wanted to make sure that I was getting things right before I spend a lot of money.

Long story short, the previous owner of this car set it up on lowered suspension, (not adjustable) with 19 inch rims and run flat tyres. So the rims have been taking a battering and the ride is awful.

I want to switch the wheels. Images below, my car, then the rims I'm looking at buying.

According to wheelfitment.eu, the wheel fitting should be:

Studs: 5 x 112
Centre Bore: 57.1

Offset: 47
Tyre Profile: 225/40R18

So these Geminis should fit no problem.

Skoda's website says that the MK3 Gemini vRS wheels won't fit on my MK2, but the specs are exactly the same.

Basically, if I'm making any rookie errors here, let me know. This is my first car and it's been a rough introduction to car ownership.

Thank you all for your help.

18" SKODA VRS GENUINE ALLOY WHEELS

You can see below that the 17" rims on the Octavia MK2 have a specification of 7Jx17 ET54 (this doesn't include the Scout models which have a specification of 7Jx17 ET50), and the 18" rims on the Octavia MK2 have a specification of 7.5Jx18 ET51.

The Octavia MK2 RS only has 312mm diameter front brake discs, so 16" rims are another option that will fit. The standard 16" rim size on the Octavia MK2 is 6.5Jx16 ET50 but consider these super light (about 7.3kg each) forged alloy rims from Audi A4/A6 cars around the year 2000.

Hey mate, I appreciate that!

I found these other ones, Skoda Trinity alloys, et46, 7.5j|

Would that work?

I'm also not sure that the brakes are stock so I'd rather stick with the 18s to be safe, there's been a few upgrades to the car before I bought it. No idea, will probably never find out exactly what they are.

No photo description available.

The Trinity 7.5Jx18 ET46 alloy rims have 5mm less offset than the standard 7.5Jx18 ET51 rims, so should fit without any rubbing.

I read somewhere that the Trinity rims are over 14kg each, so around twice the weight of the 7.3kg 16" rims that I linked to above.

It's unlikely anyone would have fitted front discs bigger than 340mm, and 17" rims will fit over those size discs. However, measuring the diameter of front discs is really easy especially if a front wheel is off.

I have 16’s fitted and rides nicely.

If you want to buy my standard alloys PM me.

Simon
