Service Plan and Extended Warranty versus Service and Maintenance contract

Featured Replies

Hello, this is my first post whilst I impatiently await my Kamiq SEL Exec 1.5 TSI DSG.

I am buying this outright i.e., not PCP and as I have been driving for 55 years this might well be my last car, so I want to look after it.

I think delivery is about 4 weeks away but will obviously wait until 1st Sept.

I am trying to research service and maintenance costs but keep coming up against a brick wall because I dont have a Reg number.

I am looking at 2 ways of doing things. Either the 2 year service package for a new car costing £456 plus extended 5 year warranty costing £515.

Or, Service and Maintenance plan from the word go. I would be doing 10K per annum and obviously on the fixed service regime.

My problems are getting costs!

If I look at a 5 year timeframe for option 1, I would need to add in servicing costs for years 3 to 5.

I want to compare it with option 2 but havent a clue on costs for that. I have spoken with Skoda customer services and they tell me it will depend upon what options I have included which might effect maintenance costs and wait until I get  a VIN or reg number.

Presumably others have been down this route, so I ask is the service/maintenance contract a good buy because it includes virtually everything?

Welcome.

Not much done in the first 2 years. Oil & Filter Inspection Service & a Pollen Filter year 2.

There is not that much servicing involved in the 5 years so is everything actually covered in a plan. Brake Fluid changes, pollen, air filters spark plugs?

No DSG Servicing to do.

The Salesperson needs to work for their commission so have them get all the info.

The Extended Warranty is going to be well worth getting for a keeper.  That will need done before the car is First Registered.

Thanks for the quick reply roottoot!

This is where I need help because on service schedules there is a £260 charge for DSG oil change at 4 years, but I read on forums it is not needed? That is just one example.

If it is needed it would be included under the maintenance plan but not the extended warranty. Also Cambelt at year 5 is included under maintenance plan but not under warranty unless it fails early.

As I cannot get details I cannot weigh up costs between the two routes. And, if as you say, I have to commit before car is registered, but I cannot get costs until I get a reg number.........☹️

Use Registration Number of a similar car advertised for sale at a Main Dealers on Autotrader or their website.

A DSG Service with ones that are required are not up to £260 yet,

and as it is the DQ200 7 speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG does not need oil changes.

As for Skoda Customer Services, well what they do not know is lots, but then what they offer is a great customer service but only as far as they are concerned.
