VCDS start stop disable on 2018 models

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I’ve just got hold of a 2018 SE L executive and very impressed.

Does anyone know if the 2018 model Superbs are as flexible to tweak with respect to attributes that impact start/stop?

I had a newer VW that effectively reset any settings made that would influence how start/stop operated on ignition recycle. I therefore wondered if this had filtered into Skoda models?

The post facelift cannot be switched off. Pre facelift can. Yours should be pre facelift and be able to turn it off through simple adaptation changes.

Ok cheers for the feedback.
I bought a similar cable for another be vehicle I had, worked well. However I prefer it if I can just prevent start/stop from working at all.

Just get one of these from aliexpress, plug and play with no need for coding

I like how they refer to the cable a ‘Super B’. 😊

The joy of it is that it remembers your last setting leaving you free to use start stop if you want or just leave it permanently off.

Just a curiosity, was wondering what the reasoning was for disabling stop/start was for?

I mean it's your car, and to set and adjust what you like.

Save wear on the starter and battery were the main considerations for me.

I’ve never liked start stop even on previous cars. Always seemed pointless where is cuts the engine and within a split second it starts back up again. I’m a bit old fashioned and have it in my head that it’s just going to wear out bits of the engine that would otherwise last a lot longer.

No matter what manufactures say it does wear parts of your engine out as I’ve see recon engines for cars/vans addressing the wear caused by stop/start.

I noticed on this 2018 Superb when I press the button the turn off start/stop it re-enables itself a period of time later.

Yep indeed. It’s just annoying that the car actually activates it while I’m driving… my previous cars just happily stayed in off till the engine was recycled.

Thanks for the answers/debate.

I myself when I first got a car with SS, I was cringing thinking that it would chew starter/kill battery... but my own long term experience was positive, no issues whatsoever.

I absolutely appreciate the concern, and agree if you have concerns get it disabled.

I mostly adapted my driving style to negate a fair few of the SS chances, by approaching lights at slower speeds if they were red at a distance.

Main thing is to enjoy our cars, and disabling it won't hurt it.

Yep totally agree to be honest.

It’s one of those typical debates that rages on across multiple threads. 🤓

I might end up leaving it at is.

I was to say we did have a level crossing in my old town with regular trains, and appreciated the feature at those moments.

Kind of glad that things can be debated, whichever way you ultimately go, it should be fine.

I miss my old Superb, but I was close to work and it would have killed the DPF all those short journeys.

That behavior is not correct - it shouldn't re-enable itself unless u've restarted the car, or u've changed the Driving Profile during ur drive.

Yep this is the thing these days because of the technology to clean up the diesel engine it makes them less suitable for shorter trips. I always prefer them to petrol owing to the instant torque you can't get with a more powerful petrol unit. On my last vehicle I became a bit obsessed with driving extra miles when a DFP regen started as felt it wasn't good to turn off the vehicle when one hadn't completed.

Ah... maybe that's it. I only got the car tonight and I do remember switching between modes so there you go. 👌

It'd be rude not to push all the buttons, otherwise why put them in the car
