Towbar wiring?

Featured Replies

I haven't actually got my vRS yet so haven't had the chance to look at it, so don't shout if this is a stupid question!!:P

I'll be putting a towbar on it and was wondering if it was a simple job of wiring it up to the lights by joining the wires at the clusters, or is the Fabia that multiplex wiring meaning that it has to be wired to a control box near the switch somewhere??

The car is a 2004 Fabia vRS!!

Thanks

Adrian

Your first issue is that you shouldn't fit a Towbar to your vRS - They aren't type approved.

That's not to say it's not been done and has been covered no end in recent times.

Having fitted a towbar to a Fabia I would whole heartedly recommend the Skoda Fabia wiring kit - all the proper plugs and not a scotchlok in sight.

You may already know but the vRS isn't type approved in the UK for towbars so is technically not permitted to have one fitted.

Skoda specifically exclude fitting towbars to Fabia vRS in their literature and again it would technically affect their warranty terms I guess. Might affect insurance premium and when MOT time comes also.

That said plenty have chosen to fit one and if you do a search on this forum should turn up lots of info on it. Strangely type approval is reported to be in place for other European countries, or so I've read on here, so much for EU standardisation.;)

Whoops too slow wan't I Stu!

Thats a bit of a sickener about the type approval!! Although one of my local Skoda dealers was trying to sell me a 2005 vRS with a towbar fitted!!

Like I said, it has been done.

Try the search and all will be revealed.

Had a towbar on my fabia vrs for over a year now. Just been MOT by main dealer and no probs what so ever. In fact the mechanic bloke doing it said what a nice job id made of fitting it lol
