Skoda Octavia 1.6 fsi new front pads, brake fluid cap loose, spongy

Featured Replies

My Skoda Octavia 1.6 Fsi had new front pads today at my local garage. As my old pads were quite worn down to last couple of mm.

Picking up the car and driving off, the brake pedal felt a tiny bit soft and spongy compared to previous. Got home and decided the check under the bonnet.
I discovered the brake fluid reservoir lid was loose and not tight.
So I screwed the cap finger tight.

Is it possible for any air to get in if the brake fluid cap was not fully closed or tight?

I will call my garage tomorrow, usually they are very good so not sure what is happening

Air will not have got into suspension in the fluid through the reservoir cap, they are vented in any case.

Spongy brakes is quite normal if the old pads had worn abnormally due to a rusted disc or caliper misalignment, it should dissappear once they have bedded in, if it doesn't then investigate.

Thanks J.R

btw in terms of brake fluid cap, is finger tight the correct tension or should it be over tightened?
