Thanks to @Jakester and @IndeedFox for coming back to update the thread, anyone else having the issue will know of a cure for the problem. 🤝

Thanks for the update. Since I had the module replaced on mine (as above date) it's been absolutely spot on. I've had a bike rack on and off several times with everything as it should be.

Looks like the dodgy module batch was a genuine thing.

Great to hear!

Thought I’d just add that there can be an issue if your towbar installer isn’t using the latest software for 2020+ models, it won’t update all of the modules and give these errors.

Im trying to code mine using a VCDS, should i be taking it to a westfalia specialist then?

I have a similar issue.

I randomly get an error message « manœuvre braking unvailable ».

But my tow bar is fitted from the origin (car manufactured in oct 2017). It’s not a retrofitted one.

I did not take time to make a VCDS scan till then.

I had thought it could be related to wheather conditions since it happens mainly in moist, rainy, cold (below 10C) conditions. But this hypothesis doesn’t match 100%.

I´ll post back here if my VCDS scan gives any clue.

So an update from me,

I finally got a reply from my supplier and after a few back and forths they have said I can post back the module and they will 'sit on it till they get a car in that they can test it on'. Not too happy with that option, so I've simply ripped out the module and 'hey presto', no faults. Took it for a test drive and my cruise control and front assist work perfectly.
Im going to take a few videos with it in and out and send it to them to prove its a module issue and not wiring.

Fingers crossed I get a solution soon.

Does anyone actually know what programing the tow bar installers do?

There wasnt a local westfalia installer, so I've done the whole install myself and was trying to code with a VCDS, but I couldnt even get the module to communicate on the bus.

Have you had any luck with your VCDS scan?

It’s a year ago so I can’t fully remember, but there are 3 different modules I think that require programming and the westfalia installers kit is just supposed to flash all 3.  The problem with 2020+ models is they use a different architecture and the software given to westfalia dealers didn’t flash all 3 leaving them with errors.

I’d be surprised if VCDS can programme everything on the new models.

@pwitty85 The VCDS scan did not reveal anything special.

But someone made the hypothesis that a low battery voltage may lead to the "manoeuvre braking unavailable" message.

Since I've read this, I pay much more attention for how long I haven't driven my Mk3 when the message appears. I have to say it sounds quite well related.

When I don't drive it for the week-end, I have the message on Monday morning. But after the 17km to go to work, the message doesn't come back in the evening, when I take the car to drive back home.

I have a 650 km trip planned soon. I'll see how long it takes before the message comes back after this trip. Anyway, I think It will be worth I replace my battery when fall 2023 has come. It will help me spending a 2024 winter without trouble.
