Strange cruise control problem

Featured Replies

Recently bought a used 2005 Octavia 2.0 TDi DSG Elegance and have noticed a strange problem with the cruise control. Under normal circumstances the CC works fine and responds to all the switch, brake and throttle inputs as I would expect.

However, if I happen to use the left or right indicators whilst the CC is engaged, it drops out permanently and then ceases to work for the remainder of the journey, even if I turn the CC off and on via the stalk switch.

It only seems to work again after the ignition has been off for an hour or so and the system has 'reset'. I can just about understand why the CC might disengage if the indicators are used (in the same way as it does if the brake is used), but why will it not reset immediately afterwards? I can find no reference to this in the manual.

I've read other posts in this forum which indicate that there is a known problem with faulty CC switches on the new Octavia, but this sounds more like a software bug of some kind.

Has anyone else come across this at all?

I read about this on SCN and they are having problems with the Altea which I believe would be a similar stalk.

The remedy is to change the stalk.

Mine has the same problem, exactly as described (Ocy II 1.9TDi)

Dealer told me it was a known fault and remedy is to replace the stalk. Mine's on back order at present and when in stock will get it fitted (warranty job obviously).

it's damn annoying though as it is a gamble as to whwther it will work or not from day to day and sometimes the cruise control can die whilst active and you indicate left/right.

My advice, get dealer to sort it out pronto.

Odd that the stalk is on Back Order - I have two here and don't have any problems getting them.

Yep, my local dealer (Coventry) is pretty useless, but the next nearest dealer is over 35 miles away and to get a loan car from them means booking months in advance so I'm buggered either way.

Same with a key fob I'm waiting for (waiting over a month for it now) - but again, just too far away for a 10 minute job.

Mine does it too: only started last week, so I'm glad to hear it's not just mine! As for the dealers in Coventry area, try Brooklyn Skoda in Rugby: a lot closer than 35 miles away!

I have the same problem with the cruise control stopping working in a journey. I had a thought it might be when I selected resume from a higher speed that the cc was set at. This has given me food for thought. However, I will be landing the car at the dealer on Monday.. I have already had enough problems and this is yet another......

Which Cov dealer? Prestige? Will Listers do Skoda servicing?

Not in Cov, this is All Electric Halesowen

Ah hah, not me....

Thanks for the advice, will give them a call and get car booked in.

Yes, it's Prestige in Cov who've been delaying things - not particularly impressed with them to be honest

As well as waiting for the indicator stalk, I also have two other items on back order (key fob and the dashboard lid thing). All warranty items so I just don't think they have the customer in mind. Sorry to say that.

I noticed that I had the same problem with my cruise control a couple of weeks ago and my CC would also disengage when trying to increase or decrease the speed using the controls on the indicator stalk. It was an intermittent problem and I had it into the garage yesterday and two hours later I collected the car and all seems well. The garage told me that they had fitted a new switch which I presume is different from fitting a new stalk?

Dealers have some info on ths problem. They should be able to help you sort it out.

I've just bought an Octavia II, and on the journey home, I was trying to figure out how to work the cruise control. I read the manual, and it should have been as straightforward as I expected, but there was nothing doing. The following day, I headed to my local dealer to ask them, and it began working - for a few seconds, and then dropped out. The dealer said they could check it the next day. The next day it worked again, intermittently, with the added quirk that sometimes both ends of the rocker switch caused it to Resume/Accelerate. Not clever. I'm now awaiting news that the switch is at the dealer.

Here's a good one for you, when I flicked the CC resume/set rocker it would sometimes trigger my wipers

Both stalks replaced under warranty and fine ever since

has anyone else noticed that the cruise control will not work once the petrol gets very low. I was driving home when the low petrol warning pinged on, then when the miles left got to 40 miles to go. the cruise control simply stopped working. Later my husband took the car for a brief drive and said the cruise was fine. When i took it to work today which is only a few miles away the miles left had jumped back to 50 yet agin on the way home when it dropped to 40 the cruise control dropped out. any ideas any one.

dstev2000... yours is just weird, like you!! :P:P

Cheeky fecker :P :D

i have no idea what the point would be :) unless it would be to point out to someone low on petrol they are almost out. yes i know there is always the low petrol light and noise too, but i can see how you might miss that on a motorway playing music loud. anyway will keep monitoring it and guess i will find out if it is the car with an intermittant fault or actually some unusal programming.
