Head unit in continual reboot

Featured Replies

Hello,

Mid way through a long car journey yesterday, the head unit of my infotainment system crashed. Android Auto was connected at the time. Since then it has been stuck in a continual on/off reboot. It comes on and then reboots about one minute later. I tried a factory reset but that had no effect. Is it totally broken or is it there anything else I can try before taking to a dealer?

TIA

The new generation do seem very susceptible to fault's.

Remove fuse, do a 20s count and insert again.  If still boot looping then probably back to dealers to try and load firmware, if it's able to be stable enough, otherwise could be a new unit.

Thanks. I'll give that a go and report back.

That doesn't seem to have worked, unfortunately . Thanks for the advice all the same

I can possibly check for existance of a firmware update, though sounds like you will have to be quick in navigating and taking a photo.

Try to hold down menu/setup key and see if you can get into the engineering mode/details and take pictures of what you think will be relevant.

Hi,

Here are some photos....

Sorry was off checking, that is the latest version in the 01xx series, the 02xx and 03xx cannot be "jumped" to.

Did it reboot in that mode, or was it stable in that menu?

It seemed stable in the engineering mode

If the car is out of any warranty, then you could flash the firmware to see if that stabilises things.

OK, I'm not sure I know how to do that, but I guess the World's Largest Search Engine is my friend for that. The car is less than 3 years old, so I'll check with the local Skoda garage...

I appreciate your help!

Whilst the car is under warranty, get the dealers to poke and prod it.

You were in the menu for updates ( engineering) so all you needed was the file's to flash it with.

Let us know how you get on, best of luck.

Been to Skoda garage now. They couldn't fix it and say it needs a replacement 'online control unit ECM', which has been ordered and likely to take another month to arrive. They seemed to think the crash/failure was probably caused or linked to the SOS emergency fault that lots of people with VAG cars have reported. I had it intermittedly before and have had it a bit more often since the system crashed on 31 August...

Miraculously, this seems to have cured itself without the replacement of the unit. Just over a week ago, a software update took place. Since then the infotainment system has been working without issue! Not sure what to make of it ...but fingers crossed it lasts

So, I still took this in to the garage as planned since a service was booked for the same day. I told them on arrival that the unit was back working and the member staff said that they would still go ahead and replace it and when I picked the car up she said 'obviously you'll have to resave all your radio stations and other settings'. I expected this because a new unit is the same as a factory reset. The thing is I didn't have to do anything - all my settings were as before. So, TBH, I am skeptical that the garage did actually carry out the replacement. Suppose the main thing is that the system is currently working fine

Still looks the same to me...

It probably is the same still then, I would have expected a hardware to change from H12 to say H16 for example.

I guess the firmware that arrived may have sorted it out completely, fingers crossed.
