Breakdown cover

Featured Replies

Just been advised my 3 year breakdown cover ends on the 30th of October. I took the 4th year factory warranty when I purchased the car. Should the breakdown cover extend free for the 4th year? I cannot determin this from paperwork I have to hand. Some advice before I ask Skoda would be welcome, thanks.

I took 5 year extended warranty when I bought my Karoq in March 2019 and my breakdown cover ended after three years. Purchased a years extension  cover before the three years had expired and should be part-exchanging in November'ish so should get another 3 years cover on new car.

I wouldn't have thought so. ( but I'm not 100% sure ).  Warranty and breakdown cover are two different things. Breakdown is administered by the AA here in the UK.

Breakdown is defo not included if you buy an extended warranty after you've placed an order for a new car.

Check the letter you were sent - it may have Skoda branding but I'm guessing the address / contact number will actually be the AA.

Having checked, you are correct in that the return address on the letter is for the AA although it seems to be a Skoda document, thanks for that.

I note that on the Skoda website you can renew breakdown cover at a cost from £99 for a year.

My  local Skoda dealer offers 12months complimentary roadside assistance with every service, the local Ford and Vauxhall dealers do as well check your main dealer to see if they do.

Now you mention it...     My SEAT came with 2yr breakdown, then it was 1yr complimentary cover with every subsequent franchised dealer service.  I seem to recall reading and thinking Skoda were doing something along the same lines - might have been in an email from my local dealer.  Wasn't sure if it was a time limited offer or is now a std feature.

Thanks kodiaksportline, my car is due for service in about 6 weeks, I'll let you know how I get on.

If you book your service online, I think it gives you a year’s complimentary breakdown cover.

It is also included if you buy the all-in-one plan (note this was 20% off in May and August), so if you can wait, and they repeat offer later in year then buy when cheaper

Cheers surreyjohn, I'm taking all this advice in and will post when I take action.  Most breakdown insurance companies will not let you take out a policy more than 30 days in advance.
