VW swap of the CD multichanger for an ipod docking unit using the existing connector that went into the CD multichanger (located in the golve box of the VW).

If these are all plug and play could this not just be mounted in the boot of the Octavia II instead of or above the CD mulitchanger and just swap over the connector?

Looks too good to be true. No need to removed the HU, no need to feed wires into the glove box, and the unit would be stashed behind the panel in the boot.

Nice piece of kit indeed. Should work fine with the Stream Head Unit too:thumbup: .

I wanted a bit more storage space and full control over my mp3 player from the dash without worrying about an Ipod being nicked so I picked up an Mstation mp3 player on Ebay and installed an 80Gb HDD into it. Have to say i'm very happy with it :D although my DAB adapter installation I started on Saturday is giving me a few headaches :( but i'll figure it out.

...so I picked up an Mstation mp3 player...

Looks like a nice bit of kit.. Prefer Paris Four Hundred myself... :)

Interesting set up.

Was it hard to install? How do you put the tracks on it? and Can you take the HU part out to avoid some ned mistaking it for a satnav?

It fitted straight in to a spare DIN slot in the boot rack but its quite deep so if i want to refit the trim cover i'll need to cut a hole in it. The main unit itself simply requires an ignition switched live and an earth plus a set of phono leads back to the head unit and the cable for the remote controller. removing and replacing the sill covers on the octy was a real pain and theres not much clearance behind the seats to get cables through to the boot.

I had a problem when i first installed it though. If it was playing when I started the car it would cut out the audio and i had to reset each time but i built a timer circuit to delay the switch on which sorted that.

The main unit is in a caddy. unlock it, remove it and it slots straight into another caddy in a 5 1/4 drive bay in my pc where it's just seen as a slave IDE drive. It takes any ordinary IDE hard drive and i've put in an 80Gb one but the firmware i'm running supports up to 120Gb. The display is fully programmable. You can program all of the display lines individually and turn on/off scroll etc. I also have a startup screen with my name and contact details in case its stolen.

You can create your own playlists and it supports mp3 up to 320kbps.

If I have one complaint its that the display can sometimes be hard to read in strong daylight but i'm working on that.

I dont think it would be mistaken for satnav. More like a taxi meter.

That's nice work JohnnyC and a good solution but I like the iPod fixture too. I'm currently considering my alternative audio options, possibly via a new head unit but I like the hard drive in the boot.

Can you confirm what the CD-changer connection is and whether it will only work with the Stream head unit. Could I use it or the MStation mp3 player with a different head unit for example? What is the sound quality of the MStation like and how well does it cope with gap-less mp3 playback?

I have an Aux adapter that connects into the autochanger input of the stream radio. It basically fools the HU into thinking the changer is still attached and accepts RCA inputs from an MP3 Player.

I got mine off Ebay for about
