Wing mirror gubbins

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm having problems with the driver's side wing mirror on my early Mk2 Fabia. The mirror glass and housing are all OK but the mirror itself flops around very loosely. It's a mechanical adjustment system (not electric) and I assume that the adjustment mechanism is broken.

Is it possible to change the adjustment mechanism and keep the parts are are OK? Or am I better off just changing the whole thing?

It looks like this. The cover is not coloured, which I imagine makes things easier.

Thanks UP.

No, the adjustment mechanism is hoopajooped. The knob inside wobbles around and doesn't do anything.

If a whole new mirror is the way forward then I'll go and have a squiz at eBay for a secondhand one. Are they easy to change?

Thanks again for your help.

Quite easy if not electric, pop off the internal triangle plastic use a plastic prise lever as metal will scratch you will then see 3 tox screws these need to be removed, I found it an advantage to wind the window down as you can then hold the mirror as you release the bolts, normaly the sponge seal breaks I used a silicone seal around the edge to stop water getting in re-fit the 3 torx screws and clip back in the plastic triangle part job done, electric one is a bit more work as the door card has to be removed to get a the wires
