Steering Wheel Heating - Switch on at start of journey

Featured Replies

Hi

Took delivery of a new Octavia SEL Estate this week. Trying to get everything set up. I have the Winter Pack with heated front seats and steering wheel. There is an option in the climate control settings to switch on heated seats and heated steering wheel at the start of journey in cold days. I can set the seats to come on, but not the steering wheel - whatever I select it reverts to ‘off’. Any ideas?

Likely it is to not automatically put too much load on the battery.  EV,s can be the same.  Might let you have heated seats on but not heated steering wheel on if heated screens, mirrors, radio, lights etc.  If demand not too high then you can just press button and have steering wheel heating on.

I get the fact that having the seats on and the wheel on may, in some circumstances, be too much load. But I don't think that explains why an option you should be able to set is not settable.

I see it as,

if it is settable and then just has to switch it's self off it might as well not be settable.  But that is maybe just too 'Simple' like me and totally wrong.

I’ve paid for a winter pack with heated seats AND heated steering wheel. Not one OR the other. You have to be able to use both together. If I turn off the ‘turn on heated seats when starting on a cold day option’, it’s still not possible to turn on the ‘turn on heated steering wheel when starting on a cold day’ option, so I don’t think it’s anything to do with a clash between the two settings. Anyone else having this problem?

I thought you were posting about not being able to pre set for both to come on.

I certainly hope when you get in the car and select the heated steering wheel that comes on, even if it maybe decides to disable it's self like mine does occasionally.  (not on an Octavia.)

I've got PHEV and heated seats and steering wheel turn on when starting at <14c

Thanks timster. How do those settings look in your menu?

@timster The OP has not got a iV though.

A WLTP Certificated (RDE2) car for the UK.

I cant remember exactly where in the settings, but mine does the same as timster and its a bog standard oil burner... both seat and steering wheel heating comes on at the start of 'cold' journeys, I don't think I had the option to set one or the other just both. I will check next time I am in the car.

I’ve got a 2022 UK spec SEL estate car. The heated seats are standard but heated steering wheel was an optional extra bundled together with a heated windscreen. Has Skoda UK changed the SEL specification recently?

I would have liked the heated windscreen but it became quite expensive when combined with the heated steering wheel which I didn’t particularly want.

Just checked, there are two options in the Climate page 'Settings' one for heated steering wheel (purely on or off toggle) and one for Seat Heating where you select the setting (one f the three seat heating options).

They both come under 'automatically start at low temp' or something like that. It doesn't say temp they come on, but as highlighted above 14 seems around right when mine automatically comes on.

I’ve noticed exactly the same thing recently and haven’t figured out why the toggle for heated steering wheel keeps defaulting to off. Weather hasn’t been cold enough to check if wheel actually comes on.

Hello my friend I’ve got the winter pack also and I can confirm that the option for the heated steering wheel settings in the infotainment screen was working perfectly on my Octavia SEL 2022 diesel 2 lite it was working fine you could select different settings on the screen just like your video now every time I select low / medium/ hot nothing happens it just goes back to off I could select any settings on heated seats and steering wheel and there would be no issues on both. Now it’s just the heated steering wheel it’s working fine directly from the steering wheel but not on the touch screen . Your suspicions was correct my friend it should work the only thing I can think of it maybe a bug in the system maybe a software update may solve it if one comes available? Before I go I’ve also done a soft reset on the infotainment system my pressing & holding the power button for 10 second’s to see if this would solve the problem but unfortunately it didn’t. If you find out the problem before I do would be very grateful if you could let me know . Cheers Bazz

The same is happening to mine it was working fine for months but just goes to the off position now

Raised this with my dealer and physically demonstrated the issue when in for a recent 10k service. They hadn’t heard of this. When collecting later said it had been fixed with software update to 1896. Checked next day and still happening. Not spoken to dealer again but will raise it again.

Hopefully when I get live updates through the live updates I may sort itself out it’s very strange that it doesn’t work now it was working fine for months. If you get to figure it out before I do would be grateful if you could let me know I’ll do the same my end👌

Update on infotainment system heated steering wheel! I’ve just done a hard factory reset from the screen now it’s working the only thing you must do if you using my Skoda app is put your details back in user name & password it explains step my step what to do it’s straight forward. Hope this sorts your out also please let me know if yours works 😁

Had left this for a while and checked recently and seats and steering wheel climate control settings all working fine. Must have been an OTA software update as I didn’t have to hard reset.

I’ve noticed on starting up vehicle it says change user settings or something like that if you press okay you will notice that the steering wheel will go from the hottest setting to the lowest setting & the infotainment setting for this will go to (low) and you won’t have the option for this to change. Then you will think **** it’s  back to this ****  again 😡don’t worry that’s all you got to do is wait for when you start the car back up again now this is where it get frustrating it could be straight away or it can be days till you get the message change user settings or something like that when you do definitively press yes and then everything think will be okay 😂 I know cos I worked out how the sneaky ****ing cheeky bug works 😂 now if the message shows up again don’t don’t  press yes again otherwise the steering settings will go back to (low) again …… then you would have to wait for the message again change user settings.  It’s silly and frustrating I know  but always press yes for normal software updates it should be fine if you keep selecting no when you see the message change user setting select no all times . Hope this info helps 😁
