Approved used Mini (or how I do so love dealers and their interpretations)

Featured Replies

So got JCW coupe, old but good nick and cme with full approved used mini warranty.

Got battery charger coz battery was showing charge issues and it'snot driven a great deal.

Charged battery and battery still showing issues.

Phone mini (local), "ok but battery isn't covered under warranty".

"
We want you to have total confidence in your car which is why the warranty is backed by MINI, not third-party insurers, and even covers the battery and exhaust."

"Ah yes it depends...."

Also cover missing from back of lights.

"ah that's also not under warranty you'd need to tke that up with the dealer that sold it to you"

Fair wear and tear? Although I suppose 'depends' is all that's needed as a caveat 🙄

Seems like neither the words 'confidence', nor 'total' have any credence.

If a 2016 model, could it in fairness be in the twilight of its career? (The battery, not the car).

6 yrs old and not used much possibly it is suffering an existential crisis :D

but... if the warranty claims to cover the battery and its still under said warranty then id be having another slightly less polite conversation about it .

The missing piece of trim I can understand, the battery? Unless there is some small print stating expected lifetime then they should honour their warranty, sounds like they may need the definitions of "confidence", "total" and "honour" explained to them.

@Aspmanis it less than 12 months since you got the car?

As well to formally make a claim under their T&C's, published guff.

Not even 3 months.

The battery is probably goosed, it'll be nearly 10yr old.

But Mini say it's covered, no * or caveats. Looks like false advertising to me.

If the battery is just old then it will be covered but the local dealership says that if it shows any evidence (in the event log of the mini one assumes) that the battery was allowed to fully discharge it won't be covered. Doesn't matter if that happened before it was sold.e
Actuall had this same crap with BMW before with diamond cut alloys. approved used but since the alloys had been refurbished  they woudn't cover them

It is a Crazy thing for MINI / MINI - BMW UK to have in the Adverts on Approved Used cars regarding the Warranty..

But they passed that, they really need to own the statement.

I reckon they might cave in quite quickly. 🤞

Car go fixed, local dealer actually knocked £50 off teh bill without asking. Battery was fine but the bulb holder was unsurprizingly corroded. Since fixing no more battery problems. Haven't found the will to take up a fight with the selling dealer.
