Got a 2013 skoda octavia elegance 2 litre hatchback
Infotainment system turned off one day
Was using sat nav day before & fine , got in car next day , black screen , wont fire up
Held button 20 seconds
Disconnected battery & put back on - nothing
Bought a replacement off ebay , nothing
Took it to halfords for 40 minutes , power in power cable & checked fuses behind glove box , he said all i can think of is you bought a lemon off ebay
I spoke with seller & said you sold me a broken unit
Returning this week for refund

Bought another one , asked the guy if it was working prior to removal & he said yes 
New one arrived & nothing
So i have 3 screens that are all black & NO radio , sat nav , cd or nothing

What exactly did you buy off eBay, just the screen or the glovebox unit as well?

 

You only mention the screen (BTW the screen is JUST a screen, the intelligence is in the glovebox unit), and since 3 of them don't work that hints you may have a faulty glovebox unit or the cable between the glovebox unit and the screen?

I took it to Halfords & they cheched black power cable that feeds screen & has power Could i install a new one with cd in front & do away wifh the one in glove box ??

Your 2013 Octavia 3 will have a MIB1 infotainment system, I doubt that screen from Halfords will be an equivalent replacement.

Would the screens have component protection?

The glovebox unit does, the screen does not
