Travel assist not available

Featured Replies

Hello. I have bought a new Škoda superb on February  2021. Since new I have been getting travel assist error when cold outside and I used steering wheel heating. I have claimed warranty repair about 6 times, four times they have updated some software, It usually helped for a day and two times they have replaced steering wheel, since the cause was some kind of sensor on a wheel. Replacing steering wheel helped for short period and than errors kept coming. And by coming I mean  loud PIIIING every few seconds / minutes.

after replacing steering wheel for a second time at the end of the spring 2022 it worked well since October (when temperatures dropped again). This week error popped again twice and this is how it starts. At first every few days, then more frequent, then every day in a morning, then few times a day and at the en all the time.

I am desperate, I have bought a new car to have peace of mind. What can I do? Car is still in warranty but clearly they do not know how to fix this. Will there be some kind of a recall? Can I demand a new car?

I am located in a country in EU.

Tnx

I am having the same issues since bought new Octavia in June 2021. Still not fixed . I had car booked in for a 'software check' , of which there hasn't been one released, then a steering wheel change, which was not done as Skoda said that wasn't the issue so even though it has been ordered by my dealer service centre they couldn't put it into car. Wtf. Now I am back at service centre as they told me they will replace the wheel, but have to reorder it. . So over the annoying noisey warnings on the dash and also my volume doesn't work on media so I enjoy some drives with no sound. Great! So over it. Apart from that the car is great 🤣

I had the exact same issue. They YMHA’s me waiting for a month on a steering wheel delivery and when they called me to bring in the car, they have “updated the software” and next day as I drives back from repair error popped again. I was furious, turns around and brought it back. They said “aaa ok I guess we will change steering wheel”. I said “yeah do it you have said you will change it”. Well let me order it and … wait what? Why was I waiting for a month???? And I have been waiting for another 15 days… they have replaced it and it did not help. Crazy really.

Yep, this is a consistent problem that I understand Skoda is struggling to fix. I have a MY21 Superb and it started doing exactly the same thing a couple of months ago. When it has a turn, the loud pinging sound will just about drive you up the wall. Lately as it’s warmed up here towards summer, it seems to have stopped. But I sense it is only a pause. Skoda have told me it will require a steering wheel replacement, but as others have discovered I think it’s a deeper software issue.

I think it is bigger than software or steering wheel. And it will cost Škoda a lot in € and brand reputation.

I have exactly both these same issues.  Software update slightly helped the no sound on the media.  And new steering wheel has helped the lessening of the TA alarms, but they still regularly go off.  After reading quite a few forums this appears to be a very well known and common issue on these cars, of which Skoda don't seem to have ay real long term solution for at present.

So annoying eh, I am getting the steering wheel replaced next Friday. If it doesn't work I'm tempted to return the car it's really not good enough and so frustrating

I'm glad to report that since my steering wheel was replaced a few months ago I've not had any annoying false alarms, feels like a new car 😁

They have replaced mine 3 times and then DSG started to malfunction (at 28.000 km). I have had it enough and sold damn thing.

Bought myself Toyota Camry Hybrid premium instead. Very very satisfied.

I would do the same if I get any more , glad you are happy with your new car choice

I’ve got the same issue.  Was told that it’s the steering wheel replaced.  They told me it was on order in May but hadn’t heard anything.  Emailed them today and been told that Skoda have issued a recall for the fault and it’s a software update.

I’ve got it booked in, so let’s see if it works.  Not holding my breath.

Had my steering wheel replaced, no problems since . Hope yours gets sorted soon

I too was getting TravelAssist and EmergencyAssist not available messages that increased in frequency until they were occurring multiple times on almost every trip - accompanied by long "bong" sounds.

I reported it and some other issues at my two year service, two weeks ago, and they performed "91CV Software update" and "48S5 Camera Control unit".

They also did a reset so I had to re-enter all my settings, favourites etc.

My system software version remains unchanged at 1896.

But since then the messages have not recurred, so perhaps one of those was the cure.

I too was getting the dreaded bong on most trips. Dealer replaced the steering wheel. That helped but I till get the bong maybe 10-15% of the time. Car is going in for two device recalls one of which is the above update I believe. See if that helps.

Go see your Skoda dealer. There is now an official software fix available. No replacement of the steering wheel anymore, just software. It takes about 20 minutes for them to do the software update - just time for a coffee! I had mine done three weeks ago and it’s been perfect ever since. Finally…

Had the update on Friday, so far no issue.  Hopefully it’ll stay like that.

Does anyone know what the update does?  If they’ve ‘fixed’ the problem by turning things off then thats not a real fix.
