Electronic Parking Brake Red light warning

Featured Replies

I'm getting a red light warning (red 'P' in a red circle) when the car is stopped? Brake fluid level  & braking system seems fine,

Shows that EHB is applied.

This comes up if you engage the parking brake yourself, it isn't a warning.

Are you manually engaging the parking brake and then this comes on? If yes, that is correct.

The green P is just the auto-hold engaging, not the parking brake itself.

It goes from green to red when you switch off the engine or open the drivers door, as others have said it just means it's gone from auto hold to fully applied, you'll hear the mechanism on the rear brakes tightening the pads.

Yellow warning will have accompanied a message on the dashboard telling you of an issue, but it doesn't always mean a fault.

For example, in extreme weather the Front Assist cannot work. I have had this on icy mornings. Twice in extreme rain while using ACC the car has disabled the ACC (as it obviously can't detect the car ahead anymore). Both times the yellow triangle has stayed on until the car decides to enable the functions again. They aren't faults though.

To caveat the above, it could also mean a fault as likewise the error message for some faults (SOS being one) goes away, but the triangle stays.

Most likely a sensor or software, as per examples above, as anything safety critical etc will have its own warning light that will stay on, such as engine, temp etc.

Mine goes through phases of bings and bongs, mostly to do with heavy dew on the windscdscreen upsetting the tsr or the headlight dip function. You'd think they'd program it to wait until the wipers had a chance to clear the screen, I don't take any notice anymore.
