Newbie with starting problems

Featured Replies

Hi thanks for letting me join the group. I have a mk1 octy vrs I've got a bit of a problem car only starts when accelerator pedal is down and when it does start it's rough let the pedal off then it cuts out. I have done new throttle body and o2 sensors any ideas what it could be. I replaced to o2 sensors as when I went out in the rain the wires got ripped out.

Any warning lights on the dash? Can you read fault codes?

Did this start after the trip out in the rain where the o2 sensor wiring got ripped out? Maybe there's still a wiring fault (further up). Did you go through any deep water that might have got into the engine?  (I've been watching those Rufford Ford videos on YouTube!)

My first guesses are bad coil pack(s) or bad MAF. You can try unplugging the MAF to see if it makes any difference. Probably lots of other things it could be. Low compression?!

Hi yeah engine light and epc light codes saying its the throttle body p2101 but tried a new one but no luck. No not gone through any deep water. I've checked all the wiring and it's all good. Checked the throttle plug with a multi meter but no readings only 5v.

Presumably if you clear the code it comes back?

I would try taking the pipe to the throttle body off and with the help of an assistant, see if it moves properly with the throttle pedal (ignition on).

I wonder if the throttle body might need calibrating with VCDS too. I've heard about that from guides for cleaning the throttle body but not had to do it myself.

Hi tried a new throttle body and there was no movement from it. I've put it on kess to read the ecu and it's says it's a seimans not a bosch so I think the ecu is fried

Oh and the throttle body won't calibrate at all

With a new throttle body then it has to be reinitialized by following a certain procedure don't know with Skoda maybe someone here can contribute the procedure.what I do know is that you should drive 20 minutes around at a normal pace at different speeds sort of relearning to throttle body. don't judge the ECU yet.
