VRS TSI estate economy

Featured Replies

Hi - I’m looking at getting an Octavia VRS TSI estate. I like the idea of having the performance at the weekends however I don’t want the car to cost a fortune to run mid-week for my commute

i have an 80 mile commute of motorway,50 and traffic. Is mid 40s mpg unrealistic?

I did consider the diesel but not sure I want to be buying a diesel now especially as my commute goes into the ULEZ. The PHEV is tempting but more expensive and my commute is too far for the electric range

What is the speed limit on the motorway?

I easy get under 7L per 100km (I think this is a bit over 40 mpg) with speeds around 140 km/h (90 mp/h) with gentle driving.

70 mph, but doing that is not possible that often.

That’s good to know you can still get 40mpg at 90mph. Yeah limit here is 70mph and I wouldn’t be able to do that much on my commute. I guess what might drop my economy is the bit in heavy traffic

So I would say over 40 is easily achievable with speeds under 70 if traffic is flowing.

Really depends on your driving style,E5 or E10 petrol and driving mode selected.Of course also how much is heavy traffic etc.

I have found despite being more expensive the premium fuel does give better mpg.I don't have a regular commute anymore but took the car on a road trip recently.

I got high 30's to mid 40's with a mix of spirited and careful driving.Short runs, heavy traffic and sports mode you can half those figures as you would expect.

I would expect on a steady run with a large percentage of motorway/dual carriage way and using comfort mode 40 will be easy to achieve over 80 miles.

If you are driving between 50-60mph then 40+mpg is easily achievable, heavy traffic will affect that though. I have had 47mpg out of mine on a 100+ mile trip with a fully loaded car, this was generally at the speed limit too.

Best ive had out of my vrs tsi estate is 42 mpg on a long run normal driving ,drive it at 90 mph your back in just over mid 30s ,regardless of what mode your car is in ive never found its made a difference ,if you drive it hard it will need more fuel.

Super unleaded E5 is not always more expensive than Unleaded E10.

There are those that have E5 costing less than E10 from other branded filling station's.

ie, maybe Sainsbury / Tesco 97 / 99 min less than Shell's 95 or BP's 95.

With driving on highways around 130-140kmh I have avg consumtion around 6,5l/100km (36mpg). With slowering to 110-120 i can get closer to 6 (39). With contryside driving around 80-90kmh I cen get even under 6 to like 5,8 (40-41). But you need to be calm driver and use the momentum of the car with less breaking and accelerating.

So If you will enjoing the car you should count with more - closer to 30mpg. And in the city, with heavy traffic its around 20-25...

My longterm consuption with City/Country/Hignways 45/20/35 is around 7,7L/100 (30,5mpg) and I am calm driver, using momentum, but sometimes I also loose the horses out in lower trafic :).

In my opinion its really efficient engine, with lot of power reserv for overtaking and so... vRS estate is for me perfect daily family car. Someting like RS6 Lite :D

If you're more concerned about fuel consumption than enjoying your drive in a cracking performance estate, forget a vRS.

Stick it in Eco on longer journeys/commutes (slower but not slow and uses much less fuel) and leave it in Normal or Sport for the weekends when you want a bit of fun.

As you know, the economy is very individual, depending on driving style, traffic, terrain, etc.... I have a TSI estate, driving mainly on relatively short distances, with some long journeys as well. Looking at the driving data between refuelling since I got the car at the beginning of May'21 - I've refuelled 50 times, doing on average 264.68 miles per tank, average consumption of 34.46 mpg, average speed of 29.06 mph. That being said, my record is 51.4 mpg over 150 miles of mainly motorway (M1, M25 and some urban) driving on cruise control in the slow lane, average speed of 50 mph. It was a boring drive....
