Led sidelights- carista?

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm looking to change my sidelights in my mk3 vrs to led.

Is there a way to change the settings in carista to allow led?, I've done my number plate lights, and that's worked OK, but can't seem to find the selection for the sidelights.

I know it sounds odd, but do you have separate side lights ?

My side lights are my DRLs.

All mk3 vrs have separate DRL and sidelights.

The weird lines inside the headlight are the sidelights.

That's fair enough.

I didn't realise I didn't have separate side lights until about two months ago, I've had the car three years. 😆

You have 2 options for the front side lights.

Either look for the correct Leuchte channel in the bcm and change Lasttyp to '43 - Allgemein LED' which will allow for any LED.

Or just fit error free 'canbus canncelling' LED bulbs.

The ones I've bought are error free, but still throwing it

They are, halfords ones, suitable for 12v and no error, but these vrs need everything coded.

If they were error free, then you wouldnt have errors....

They may list them as error free but theyre clearly not removing the errors on your car, plus the ones from Halfords are rubbish. Take a look at Auxito on ebay, lots of people on here use their bulbs without issues.

The only reason they would need coding is if youre fitting a different type of bulb without an error cancelling function.

I've tried two lots man, both error free, and ones from a seller I know are error free.

It's littered here with having to code, but I'll try another set incase.

People go on about 'error free' like they are always guaranteed to work. My experience of VAG stuff is the canbus system is so sensitive its rare to find any LED bulb that doesn't set an error off.

I fitted the Halfords ones (own brand, cap bulb with white plastic base?) Which was about my 4th different 'error free' bulb I tried with no joy.

I've just today had the LED sidelights error coded out. I had several other things coded at the same time for £40. Worth waiting and getting done if you plan to do LED numberplate lights or any other LED light options and do it all at the same time.

Once again I have to point out that the Canbus system has nothing to do with the monitoring of bulb resistances, the function is carried out by the Body control module or Comfort control module or whatever they choose to call it on your vehicle.

All the manufacturers saying their LED bulbs are "Canbus compatible" etc are talking rollocks, unfortunately it is so widespread that people are repeating the rollocks.

Is it really so offensive to see a slight yellow hue from a sidelight or number plate light that you would go through all this expense and hassle?

Is it so offensive to see people doing what they want? Or getting things wrong? Let people do what they want, it's their money. Not like its breaking laws. Some people spend thousands modifying cars, a few bulbs is a drop in the ocean.

I'm not offended in the slightest nor preventing people from doing as they please, it wasn't the cost of the LED bulbs but the £40 for coding I was commenting on.

I have just bought LED bulbs for the headlights of my ride on lawnmower, I didn't mind the colour of the light but the 5 watt output (it uses sidelight bulbs) was enough to be seen but not to see by, a packet of 10 cost only €3.25 including delivery from Ali-Express, it wont need recoding for them to work 🤣

I have used 12v LED ribbon lights in the rear luggage compartment of the Yeti and also higher up the C pillars, the existing lights were not sufficient to find anything under the boot floor at night, I didn't mind the colour, just the lack of illumination like on the mower.

If OP has invested in Carista (like I did) and found it hasn't done what he wanted (like I did), and continues to want LED sidelights bulbs that don't seem bring up errors 99% of opinion on here is it needs coding out. Unless you have the expertise (I dont) or time to learn VCDS and a cable or OBD11 (I dont) getting someone else to code it out is pretty much the only practical way other than trying multiple bulbs on recommendations.

Going back to stock bulbs is easiest and cheapest.

But yes, some people are that anal they will go to great lengths to have it the way they want it. The great modern combination of marketing and consumer culture.

Guys, sorted it.

Ended up coding it with vcds, luckily I have access to it for free.
