Blower not working 2008 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

My heater blower stopped working in my MK2 Octavia. The 10a fuse in the interior fuse box was fine. I only had speed 4 before so I presumed that the resistor had packed it in and replaced it. Still didn't work. I took out the blower motor and tested it and it works fine. So I traced back to the switch unit. I disassembled the unit and cleaned the speed switch terminals with a scotch brite pad and electrical contact cleaner. Nothing still. I've now discovered that no power seems to be getting to the switch. I checked with a multimeter and a 12v light up tester also. So at this stage I am wondering what the wiring does pre the switch unit and what could be broken. I cant find any much information online so hoping I may be able to get some help here! Thanks in advance everyone. Great forum :)

10 Amp seems too small to be the correct fuse. I'll see if I can find which is the right one, and its rating.

Fuse #40, 40 Amp rated I think?

Is it a diesel?, if so there may be a relay involved too.

Hi Pete thanks for the reply. My fault sorry yes its 40a and had checked it and it's fine. There doesn't appear to be a relay in the main relay box under the steering wheel. Online states that there can be one there but cars with a heating element do not have one. The slot where the relay would be is empty so I presume my car has a heating element too. The blower worked before so the lack of a relay there surely can't be a problem. Perhaps there is one somewhere else though?

And yes 1.9tdi

Apologies meant cars with a independent heating element do have the relay. Mine does not. Screenshot_20221121-174940_Chrome.thumb.jpg.7dcf0fef880061dd1e29c6116c2f106f.jpg

In the end it was the 460 relay sending power to two rows in the fuseboard

Thank you for letting us know the solution, so many times people ask for help and never leave a message to say what the problem was.
