Replacing external window wiper/scraper seal

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Has anyone replaced this seal before and if so, can it simply be pulled out or do i need tools/to dismantle the door card?

Are you looking to get a better seal around the glass?

Both front windows on my car don’t wipe water off unless I push out whilst the glass out.

I would be interested to know if they can be replaced.

Not yet, I ordered the part and when it arrives next week, I’ll find some time to give it a go at replacing it over Xmas. That said as and when I do, I’ll post my findings on how to do it

So had an hour spare this afternoon and so worked out how to do it.

The answer is that if you have a pre facelift Octavia, you can pull it straight off (put the window down and start gently pulling in the middle) and slide it away from under the mirror. If you have post FL Octavia then you need to take to take the door card off along with the mirror. I’ve got a post FL version so I need to get a couple of trim removal tools to avoid risk breaking the retaining clips.

So I changed the seal this afternoon which took about 30 seconds but taking the door card and the mirror off took a bit longer(!) especially as I had never done it before. Still didn’t break any clips as used set of trip removal tools (maybe a bit lucky) and it was relatively easy to do. 👍

Can you tell me where you get these seals from and what sort of price are they?

Thanks in advance.

on a 2013 mk3 octavia is it just a case of opening the window right down, pulling that seal off and then pushing on a replacement?

I got the seal from Skoda-shop.com and it was about £19 and spent enough on other parts to get free postage.

I reckon so from what i saw in a pre FL workshop manuel. It’s worth taking a look at the end of the seal at the door hinge end and if it looks like it will slide out under the mirror fitting then you’re in luck. Top tip to remove it is to start loosening it in the middle of the window and as soon as you get one part free then free up the door handle end then slide it out.

Thanks for much for that info! 🙂🙂🙂 I'll take a look! 👍

Thank you from me also, I should be able to manage that.

I take it that £19 is for one seal.

Thanks for the useful thread.

I needed to do this on my pre face-lift mkiii estate. So I decided to give it a go and thought I'd post my experience. I'm a low level DIYer, and that's in the house. Cars, forget it. But what's the worst that could happen?....

Anyway, it turns out the advice here is good. I would say that the front doors are a bit tricky because you have to slide the seal under the wing mirror, and really it's a bit big and the end cap can get mangled. But by applying a little bit of silicone lube, teasing the end up and lifting the mirror away whilst iching the seal under it I could get the job done. That's on the drivers side.

However I tried the passenger side first, without the lube, and without lifting the mirror. Brute force works, but it did bend the seal a bit, and thanks to the metal retaining strip built into it it now has a little lump in the middle of the door. My bad.

Of course you could eradicate the risk by taking the mirrors off, but that sounds pretty involved and I couldn't be faffed with it.

Anyway, I hope this helps anyone else who decides to give it a go.

I ordered the parts - all 4 outer seals - from the skoda-shop place in czechia and they were helpful with making sure I got the right bits. Cost about £75 delivered by fedex within a few days.

Hello!

I understand that I am a bit late to the party, but I had my RS Combi in for work some time ago and the front left seal has been a bit crooked since. I figure with a 10 year old black pre fl it would look odd if I just replaced the one (even though there are different chemicals I could use to spruce up the old ones).

Seems very straight forward on the earlier ones, I was just wondering about part numbers (due to not having the PDF available currently). Are these the correct ones:

5E0 837 477  5AP

5E0 837 478  5AP

5E9 839 477  5AP

5E9 839 478  5AP
