Leaking Thermostat Housing

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I need to pick your brains please 🙂

I took my car to a garage for annual service. The guy told me that my thermostat housing is leaking. I had noticed coolant getting low so I think it makes sense. I was told that I should leave the car for two days for this to be replaced.

What I would like to ask you is that since the car will stay in the garage for two days and I assume that they will open some deep parts under the bonnet which normally wouldn't be touched, would you recommend me to get anything else checked and/or changed? To give an example, based on service history that I could reach, no water pump or similar part ever been changed. The car is 2010 and it is at 76K. Any suggestions? Any comments on housing leaking is also welcome 😉

The mechanic is a nice guy but prefers to keep his nose clean, not guides me at all. TIA!

Easy enough to (dis)prove; look for a wet patch or cooland residue just below the thermostat housing.
