Canton 'forgets' EQ settings.

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed this? After a power cycle, my audio EQ settings seem to reset? Even though the proper EQ setting is shown as selected it's like it defaults to a flat EQ. I have to pick another setting, then select my original setting to reset it. Another annoying bug in the system!

Hey, its the same on mine 2022 vRS. I think it is a root of talks about how rubbish Canton is 😀 it is just the settings gets reset every time! I googled it, but found nothing so far about this bug.

I read the other thread where this was mentioned and tried to see if my canton does it, but it seems not. I’m on 1889 software.

Mine didn’t do it until the firmware updated to 1896

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi!

Yes mine is doing it from the first day I got it. It has the 1889 software, dealer doesn't want to try an upgrade because I can't prove that it is resetting with a video. You can hear it clearly that it is resetting to a flat eq, also it is resetting the sound focus too. (I'm using it to focus only to the front seats and eq set to rock and from rock to individual, that's get you the most bass out of that subwoofer.) So I have to reset every time I jump into the car. Very annoying. If you have any solution please post it here. Thanks!

My car is going in soon, I'll let you know if they manage to fix it!

Try another dealer maybe?

No luck. They are stating that I would need new hardware for that....

If that's what it gets to fix the issues, than they should do it under warranty i guess.

Is it resetting settings immidiately, or after some time? Maybe you could try to find a way to recreate it in a way, that could be recorded.

It is easy to get recreated. It happens every time 😀

Yes I can recreate but you have to hear that becuse all the options are correct on the screen but the sound is flat. You can't record this on a video because on the vid you can't hear any difference.

How about if you used better microphone for recording?

You could also use application for spectrum analysis, to show frequency response. This will show, that EQ is changing to flat, as difference will be clearly visible in the graph.

What i meant about recreating this, is if it's happening immidiately after engine is off or car locked, and than unlocked again, or is it happening after some time.

Because if it's reset immidiately, it should be fairly easy to show by recording with good mic and/or taking frequency reponse before and after reset.

Yes I went through these options as well and thanks for the tips but at the end this is a pure "We don't care about it" situation. You can bring any evidence they don't want to deal with it and that's it. I couldn't believe in the first place when they told me that I will have to prove it. Man, go outside sit in the car config the sound then get out lock it and get back. This car costs a fortune in Hungary and they don't give a s*** about that the software is a piece of ***. I'm tired going to the dealers every month explaining the problem and they not doing anything. I had some hope in 1896 update but as mentioned above it didn't bring any solution to this so it looks like I'll have to cope with it.

I assume it's Canton amplifier that needs firmware upgrade, not head unit. In Canton DSP is built in the amplifier.

Making a video and/or frequency response measurements should be enough of a proof. If they still refuse to take care of it, try to contact Skoda distributor directly. If thast doesn't help, you could probably try reporting it to consumers rights bureau (i assume there is one in HU, as you are in EU).

You are probably right, but I don't have the time and energy to manage this. It's a joke that they don't care about any software errors. For me the solution is no more skoda for company cars. Maybe I'll try to contact a distributor in the future. Thanks for the tips.

I know it's annoying and frustrating.

Thing is, that currently all manufacturers are using users as beta testers. It's not only Skoda.

If your solution is "no more Skoda...", than the same thing goes to whole VAG. And Kia/Hyundai. And so on.

Probably each forum contains similar posts now. Users have software and/or "hardware" issues, some are lucky to have good dealership and issues are solved, some are less lucky and their issues are dimissed. It goes for all brands, including so called "premium" cars.

All we can do is fight and/or change dealership (or brand, but only if you know it's dealership nearby is providing better services, and i do not mean free coffee :) ).

Serious question to any new car buyers on the forum.

What benefit do you enjoy with a new car that makes it worth putting up with all this K-rap?

From my side the overwhelming benefit of buying second hand cars is never having to have any contact again with a main dealer sales or service reception. You may choose to do so but it is a choice, I prefer to have ownership of and responsability for any problems with my vehicle and to learn from the very sad experiences of new car buyers which ones to avoid buying second hand, which at present looks like most!

Nothing stops you from not using the dealership if you can afford a new car without a lease/loan. Benefit is that the car rarely if ever actually breaks down to the point where it leaves you stranded, it also feels pretty nice, like a lot nicer than old 100k miles beat down car.

So maybe just think of it so, that we are buying new cars, so that you can later on buy used one from us. Otherwise we would all be repairing Beetles from the 50's :)

You make it sound like driving an older car or repairing a 50's Beetle is a bad thing!

I wasn't criticising your choice, I respect it, I just wanted to know what is the attraction that outweighs the grief and having to deal with the main dealers.

I appreciate that you dont have to have your vehicle serviced or looked at by Skoda but if your car develops or exhibits any of the characteristics that now dominate this forum you have no choice but to go to a main dealer to (battle to) exercise your warranty rights or to poke up with it.

It seems like the second option is far less grief than the first.

I also understand that if its a company car or you choose to lease then it has to be a new vehicle but the same question could be asked of the latter.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing to drive older car, and repair Beetles from the 50's. I'm just saying, that if no one would be buying new cars, than there would be very limited choice of old cars to buy. Just think of Cuba for example :)

My wife is driving 2013 Ibiza, bought used. So no, i have nothing against buying used cars.

What is the attraction? For me there are 3.

1. I'm getting a car with all new bells and whistles, which i really like.

2. There's a less chance, that in new car you will have some big and expensive failure, say, engine.

3. Having new, i know what i can expect and how car was used and maintained during it's whole life.

Fortunately i haven't had any major issues with my new car, so in most cases warranty repairs were done during regular servicing. So dealing with delarship was not an issue for ME. At least not more of an issue, than dealing with some other mechanics.

With used car thing is, that it's getting harder and harder to get a good car, that been maintained properly and is really in good condition. If i would be able to buy a car from someone like... me :) or some forum members, i would consider. But otherwise it's a lottery.

Thanks for your informative response and for putting me in your shoes, thats what I was asking for.

I agree without new car sales second hand choice would become worse and worse for more and more money, Cuba is a good example, I have to admit I would be more at home on Cuban roads and driving and maintaining a 50's relic than joining the ranks of new car owners, it would not have been the case 15 years ago, not because I was younger but because the way new cars have evolved.

Anyone else with why they prefer buying a new vehicle with the current offerings?

Today I got the 1896 update and was upset, that Flat EQ bug still present in my car 😞

Have they updated because of that issue, or something else?

If it was because of that issue, tell them it's still not fixed, and ask if they can check if there's a new amplifier firmware available.

No, I got the update mainly because I was (and still am) sometimes getting the no sound at all bug and some other annoying niggles. But my dealer said they would update my system every time I would come to service my car because it is in their routine checkup to make sure it is up to date. But they admitted they are getting many complaints about MIB3 😀
