Firmware update / rear camera stopped working

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have Superb 2016 MKIII that one day rear camera stopped working and now I see only the simple assist with red lines instead of the camera view.

I think the software is old anyway - so maybe worth trying update firmware.

I've also read something about long coding but didn't understand what exaclty I should do and how do I get to that.

Hope you can help with some instructions and updated firmware

Thank you in advance

Ori

Put the car in reverse and post a photo of it here.

never seen a software update required for a reverse camera not working.

is it a factory fitted or retrofitted camera, genuine or not?

There will be a radio update from 0367 to 0369, but I doubt that would fix the issue.

Odds are the fault lies elsewhere, what diagnostic scanner do you have available?

Try as requested to get image of what you get when selecting reverse.

Attaching current view when switching to reverse - getting the ParkPilot instead of the rear camera view

* The rear camera was checked by local stereo installer - which confimered the camera is fine - and even tried to replace to see if that will work but it didn't

he said that he thinks it's something with the headunit not switching properly to rear camera and they don't fix those things

Everything as far as I know is factory fitted (i'm not the original owner)

regarding diag scanner I have simple JUNSUN scanner I've bought to my wife's Kia car but never used it - let me know if that will fit or i'll purchase something else

I had this issue a while back and the blue block on the head unit connection just needed reseated (above glovebox). It’s been fine for over a year now:

I struggle to believe a local stereo installer (unless he does more than that) was able to check the camera… if it’s factory fitted they would have to scan for codes, did they do this?

what did he try and replace it with? If it’s factory it needs coding

Did you work this out or the Dealer?  I’ve had an ad hoc error where no camera displayed when reversing but it’s only a rare ad hoc occurrence.

I retrofitted the camera and discovered the issue. I used an OEM camera and it’s supposedly the same connections used when factory fitted. I’m sure my removal and (initial) reconnection contributed in my case, but it took a year after fitting to happen and it’s a really easy thing to try. The glovebox pops out/down very quickly and you can reach up to the quad block at the back of the head unit.

I’m not sure about the dealer relevance, but I had a constant fault and it was easy to diagnose/fix. If you have an intermittent issue, the dealer might not be able to do much unless it’s creating a code.
