2014 Superb estate panoramic sunroof alignment operating issue.

Featured Replies

2014 Superb estate panoramic sunroof issue. I tried opening it during the cold weather and it made a scary crunching sound and since won't operate correctly. First time was opening on Tilt and it made the same noise as I closed it. Noise from front right.I think maybe there was ice in the mechanism and something either broke or pulled out of alignment. Closes crooked, does not slide open to predefined place or fully, tilts open crooked (one side higher than the other) and can only be closed using the tilt-down close and slide back close both being operated at the same time. Doesn't slide all the way back to close. Also makes a crunching noise at the beginning of the slide open. Took 30 minutes to close the other day so don't really want to open to take photos unless I'm pretty sure of a fix. Skoda and independant garage suck air through their teeth and say no available parts probably whole new sunroof. I think either a simple part in the mechanism has broken / slipped and the roof needs reseating on runners and resetting. Any suggestions / assistance appreciated.

VAG group panoramic roof is pain in the *ss in many ways. Jammed draining tubes, factory glued adhesive results heavy water leakage etc. In your case I assume that gear which operates roof window is cracked and there is no other solution than new frame (1-2000€) or as my friend did, just glued glass to frame with adhesive enternally, meaning there is no operation any more, just glass roof.

Removing panoramic roof fuse when temperature will get below 1-2 degrees Celsius should be mandatory for each car owner in order to save a bit life of this stupid piece of engineering.

thanks - assume gears not available to purchase? Maybe ebay or scrap ones?

Did you get any further with this? Mime had the same issue that I managed to close properly with some fenagling and have left it since it looked expensive.

Quote from independent was over £2k to replay frame.

Took it to Skoda and they confirmed Bent frame. But also there had been poor work done previously as roof lining and other parts were not correctly fitted. I was aware sun blind missing at purchase but not of additional damage.

Skoda replaced frame and several other bits and got the quote down to almost same as independent.

Roof was not leaking so I could have left it shut but as I would take a big hit selling with defective roof and hope to keep the car long term I had the work done this week.

There’s a get out clause in the MkIII handbook which states only open the sunroof when it’s 20C + , so if you adhere to the clause, it precludes you from opening the sunroof on a lot of half decent sunny days in the UK. Opening it in very cold weather is obviously not recommended. At least you were able to have it repaired.
