interior lighting (Electrical buzzing noise)

Featured Replies

There is a buzzing noise coming from rear interior lights. I have removed the light holder and disconnected them. The buzzing is still on. There is a small black box that connects to the light cluster. it would seem as if this is the cause of the buzzing. this only starts when the engine is running. Has anybody encountered a similar issue ?

Welcome to the forum,

Do you have an image of this black box item?

Hi varoom,

Thanks, the pictures show the box (Although Not the easiest place to get a decent picture)

It is about 2 inches in from the Void where the Lights sit. (towards the front of the car)

It definitely appears to come from this box

Thanks,

The one thing I was thinking it could be was an ultrasonic sensor for break-ins.

Have you got a zoomed out view of where it sits in the car, trying to get a mental picture of where it is roughly (words only help so much!)

The box is sitting within the void here

Just double-checking... The black box has wires that are fed from the light power also?

And if possible, can you post your VIN, minus the last 6 numbers so I can check wiring diagrams.

I can only feel one set of wires leaving the box.

This joins with a second set that Bot attached to the light unit

 VIN is TMBKR7NE3L0

i am not sure where the Second set are going

I have had a good look at wiring diagrams, but nothing jumped out at me there.

May have to wait a while to see if someone else has seen this, might see if there are some YouTube videos on removal of headliner, as the part might be seen in full then.

@Ando101 do you have any updates regarding the solution. I've just noticed that I have exactly the same issue with my Octavia 2019.

Hi there, yes problem solved.

it appears there was a tracker wired in to the rear lighting power.

I eventually took the car to an electrical garage. If you see a box like the one in the pictures it maybe a tracker

cheers

@Ando101 ah good to know that it's an easy fix. I have the exact same box that makes noise when the engine is on. Did they just replace yours with a new one?

  • 1 year later...

Ah, just a quick update. The box was simply removed a year and a half ago. It was not an original part and was added for unclear purposes. It seemed like a tracking device from the look of it.
