Octavia Petrol Engines

Featured Replies

Good evening all. Making the move back to SKODA after having run a VW TDI for a while. Last car was FABIA 1.4TDI but looking for an Octavia Estate Petrol 2017 M.Y. with the 1.0 or 1.5 engine and probably a manual gearbox. I've read quite a bit of negativity about the 1.5 petrol engine which I believe is a chain driven unit. Is this justified? Also, what is the 1.0 like? underpowered? Cam belt? Both our FABIA and VW Touran have been very reliable and I am hoping to continue with this reliability as we move to an Octavia. Any experience or advice much appreciated

There were some issues with early 1.5 TSI ACT. Mostly sorted.

They are not chain they are timing belt.  Changes at 5 years according to Skoda / VW UK.  More expensive than doing a cam belt change with a 1.4 TSI.

The 1.0TSI is only under powered if you want a car full of adults and stuff or to tow up hill and down dale.

Best try driving them.

Thanks very much - reassuring about the 1.5 - is there a year to avoid per chance or would they all be good? I'm probably looking at a 2019/2020 registered car of the 2017 M.Y.
