Heated wing mirrors

Featured Replies

Morning!

I tried to use the heated wing mirrors on my 2011 Roomster but the switch doesn't seem to work. It will turn and click into place for L, R  and 0 and work fine but when I try to click on the heated part it just goes round. Should I bother to get a new switch fitted?

That's not how it works. The L and R positions adjust the relevant mirror, and the "heated mirrors" position enables the mirror heaters when you also switch the HRW on.

I am sure that's not how it works on that car, on my Octavia the heated mirrors work independently to the heated rear window.

I am sure the Roomster is the same.

I am 99% certain that you need part number 5JC 959 565  REH (colour choice) for a RHD car, note the the orginal part was superseded, so odds are some flaw exists.

Plenty of examples on eBay or any other site should you wish, £36.73 +VAT is price at dealers to give you a ballpark.

And yes I would replace as wing mirrors are essential for pulling out and not hitting bikes/motorbike/cars (looking over shoulder as well of course)

A mk 3 I presume?

I had Fabia mk2 that had a loose mirror rotating switch and as long as it was turned to the rear position the heater was on.

Often forgotten.

likely usually broken from the early days when they were stiff.

As to heated mirrors, nice, but if not working then use Glass Cleaner / Rain X on them and remember to wipe them, and look in them.

we did have decades of no heated mirrors.

Obviously if they are there and not working try and find out what the fault is.

If there are various electrical issues, door loom, switches etc an Auto Electrician can be worth the expense.

You asked a question you aready know the answer to, perhaps you are best to actually make a statement.

What you described is exactly how they worked on our Fabia and Octavia and how they work on the Kodiaq

I can't see a roomster being any different

Forgot to say...   The switch on the Fabia gave up in a similar manner so I stripped it down and found some grease inside had thickened and stopped it staying in position

These mirror switches on at least same/similar 6R/6C VW Polo, do feel quite nasty when rotating to the heater position, they, for me, have never filled me with confidence that they work and will remain working, but at 7.5 years and 42K miles, so far so good.

The switch is very imprecise and floppy when selecting the settings. Yes it seems that you are not selecting anything as it flops around. Select a function, for example the R mirror and see if you can adjust the mirror. If so move the rotary switch to the heating mode counting the clicks. It does feel that the switch is broken but it is the nature of the beast. The rear view window is only heated when pressing the button on the dash. The mirrors and rear window are separately heated.

There have been threads / posts on Briskoda in the past where members have asked about having the heated rear screen and heated mirrors work off the same switch.

People do modify from standard.

PS

There are the threads where members said their heated mirrors were on for 7 years. Really?
