Quick hack wanted... cigarette lighter socket?

Featured Replies

Is there a quick way to put the cigarette lighter socket on an ignition-controlled feed? I've got my dashcam and a bluetooth dongle fed from it and a phone charger; ideally I'd like it all to go "off" when I shut the car down or when I open the driver's door AFTER shutting down.

I use a split relay "SPLIT CHARGE RELAY PCT VOLTON ZR1220" wired inline to the boot 12v socket in my mkII Superb. Basically a 12v plug wired to the input and two sockets wired to the switched output. It detects the input voltage and makes the output sockets live when the engine is running and alternator is charging.  For me it runs my dash cam and a coolbox in the boot - without this the coolbox would quickly flatten the battery, turns off a few seconds after stopping.

I've done a similar thing in my sons Octavia with the Volton and a 4 way 12v socket tucked behind the dash / transmission tunnel.  His feeds dash cam, sat nav & Amazon Echo Auto.
