Strange sound from engine

Featured Replies

Hej

I am happy owner of Skoda Octavia IV 1.5 TSI with 34.000 km. It was purchased in 2021.

It has an issue when it is cold outside. When temperatures go below 5 degrees Celsius it is making a strange sound.

See the video IMG_0541.MOV

Does any one get it what it is? This sound is only there when I am stationary and engine is running on minimal revs.

Hm... not sure what it is. Did you talk to a dealer/service? If you rev the engine up a bit, does the frequency change?

I got a bit closer to the problem. It looks that sound comes from air filter box.

It sounds like there is a problem with air flow.

I had the same sound and it is coming from the transmission.

It needs to be replaced with a new one.

Noise is either the alternator pulley sprag clutch, hard to be sure from the video but it does look like the belt is oscillating which is the keynote sign.

If not then its the large bearing supporting the aircon shear plate pulley, mine makes a similar noise with the aircon on at low revs but not when switched off, check to see if sound alters with AC on or off.

Hej

on  Friday I got my car back from the official service.

I was told that hey had to replace the pad in the gearbox.

Repair was done under the warranty cost.

So no more noise?
