Buzzing from Climate Control [maybe supplementary electric heater related?]

Recommended Posts

We have a new Superb 2.0 TSI 190 SE L DSG Estate since Oct 2022, replacing a similar 2018 1.4 TSI 6 speed model. It has an annoying characteristic that the old did not have and that is when you are stopped/parked and the engine is off (but ignition on), you can hear an annoying electrical buzzing noise. if you turn the climate off (via middle fan control), it stops. I have attached an audio file where you can hear the noise, when I turn the climate off & on.

Searching the forum, it may be related to the "Automatic supplementary heater" the car seems to have. I have unticked the option in the Climate menu options but it does not change anything. I have it booked into the dealer for them to comment but I expect them to say "they all do this". Any advice welcomed ...

It sounds like you have found the problem yourself as you say when you turn the climate off the noise stops. If you have unchecked the supplementary heater option and it makes no difference it would seem to rule that out. My Superb was new in October 2022 and I haven't noticed any noise at all when the stop/start kicks in and the engine is off but ignition on. Note I have a diesel model but if the engine isn't running I don't see it makes an difference?. I have always left the supplementary heater option on.

Sounds like it is related to the climate somehow, perhaps your dealer has a similar car they can compare it with for you and if different to yours they have little option but to agree with you and investigate further.

I think you might say I have found how to stop the noise but I'd rather find the cause and so, either get it fixed or learn how to disable it. My neighbour has a 2021 Superb Sportline Plus with same engine as mine and his does it but much quieter for some reason. I guess there is a spectrum and mine is at the louder end?

I suspect the Dealer will say "they all do it" and so I have to live with it. In the scheme of things, not too big a deal I suppose. I was just wondering if anyone had managed to stop it happening. This forum is so good for things like this.

Might be an issue with your browser. It definitely says 2021 😉

That's strange, I see this:
