Is my car remapped?

Featured Replies

It's not a Fabia but I thought some of you vRS owners might be able to help me out. I have an Ibiza FR PD130 and I'm beginning to think it's remapped.

To start with I had 3 or 4 attempts with the G-tech today and all my 0-60 times were in the mid - low 7s (with the best being 7.14). All my 1/4 mile times were in the low 15s @ 90+mph. This was with one passenger in the car and I'm not too good at starts.

I know the G-tech isn't 100% accurate but it was set-up correctly, and on previous cars and on mates cars I've found it to be quite accurate.

Also, a few days ago I had a little go with a Fabia vRS on the motorway (he was trying) and I pulled a significant length on him.

The car also seems to put a little bit more smoke out other PD130s I've see (nothing serious though).

I was wondering if there was any other way to check if the car has been remapped? (I don't live near any other rolling roads)

Any help much appreciated.

Alex

Thought that might be the case. Bit disappointed really as I'm used to the power now (which I thought was 130) and I was looking forward to getting a remap to 180ish!

Yeah I bought it privately, but the guy I bought it from (owner since new) didn't seem the kind of person to have it remapped, and the car had no other modifications.

Cheers

Are you happy? If so, that's the most important thing - you're enjoying the car!

Was this the only FR130 you drove?

If so, its understandable that you wern't aware of it being remapped, if say its one of the less aggressive remaps??

After i made the mistake of test driving one car and buying it straight away (a few years ago) i now make sure that i test drive at least 2 before buying just to compare.

so your driving around with no insurance really ......

you will have to tell your insurance if it is remapped mate, and soon before you crash !!! :)

I'd change your font colour S13.

Those of us who are using the fusion skin cant see it.

ok, i will try and do it now ....

i dont know how lummox.

what is fusion skin ? and why do people have to change there font color because some other people are using fusion skin out of choice ?

Skin is either in the control panel or a box down in the bottom left of this page.

Just changes the layout and colours of the page. Fusion is dark grey rather than white (bit eaiser on the eyes I find) so some font colours wont show up.

Cos Cobalts too bright and does your head in imo, and you want people to read your thread so stick to stock font and colour, unless making a statement egIts Yellow:)

was that for me ? if so i have never changed the color, i dont know how. So this is not stock font and color ?

If it was not for me sorry :o

This is being aimed at S13 not you Richard, hence my first post.

i feel a bit of a **** :D

i thought i was using s13 font

sorry

Sorry Richard as the man ses but bet me to it

one thing I've noticed about trying out some of the guys re-mapped cars at meets is the re-mapped ones rev nicely up to the red line, and keep pulling..... the stock map dies at 4000 revs (best to change up there and not rev it...)

does yours keep pulling strongly up to the red line?

Why don't you go to a dealer and pretend you're interested in buying another one? That way you can compare a stock 130 with yours.

Might be worth either getting it RR or having a test drive of a stock one.

As for insurance, the guy sold it to you as a standard car, not having test drove one before how would you know it's been mod'd, it's a grey area to be honest. Best you find out for sure and seek some independent motoring advice.

Why not just ask somebody to check if it has been done?

Surely that is the best way to tell, either that or contact the previous owner and ask.

You'd definitely want to know, if it's mapped & you don't know, it could potentially get very interesting if you had an incident with it involving an insurance claim.

Not sure if 'not knowing' would suffice as a reason/excuse when the insurance company finds oout.
