Under bonnet rust?

Featured Replies

My bear had it first birthday just over a week ago.  Was surprised to see rusty water stains in the engine bay that seem to be coming from inside the bonnet, through the wholes where the rubber stops screw into place.  Is this just mine, or do all Kodiaqs rust here?

You need to check to see where the rusty metal actually is.

Maybe a fastener attached to the bonnet and not actually the bonnet.   Well not yet.

I'll have a better look and take a snap.  Rusty water seems to be leaking out of the outer box section past the rubber closure 'stops' on both sides.  Your car is obviously clear then Toot?

@DappernutThat is not my car just a illustration for anyone that does not know what a Kodiaq's catches / strikers or rubbers might look like.

From an advert for under bonnet mats.

?

Have you had the bonnet open this winter when there has been freezing and thawing over the days and nights and noticed much condensation on the bonnet or around the engine compartment?

I was a car sprayer and did warranty inspections, reports and remedial work and refinishing.

From reports of rusty liquid leaking from doors or panels that was often wax treatments washing out.

Rear hatches and bonnets often the wrong bolts or screws and that causes the panel / hole edges to rust.

Dissimilar metals.  Self tapers screwed into the rear hatch holding on rear reg plates etc.

Not common that the underside of a bonnet is not prepped correctly even where not colour coated.

But Skoda have had the Zinc Inclusion issue and others faults, so have it checked out.  Not be a sales person or service desk or such,  a tech how can get a paint tech or warranty manager.

Or get an independent body shop to look before going to a dealership.

A Borescope is good to check where the sun don't shine.

That can be where a Dealership employees might not be that bright.

Yes, good idea.

Revisited today and what was orange when first discovered has now turned green, so clear not rust (which is a relief).  Presumably wax wash out as suggested.
