Battery problem?

Featured Replies

I have a skoda octavia 1.6 tdi dsg 18 plate

I keep getting warning lights come on then dissappear. I've been driving then the car lose drive then I turn it off  &,it drives ,the management comes on then when I go to take it for diagnostic test it's never on.my mechanic thinks it might be battery or alternator but the alternator is charging the battery.this is becoming a bit of a nightmare

Do those lights go away once started and driven a little?  Odds are battery is on way out, or go around and check the Earth's in as many places as you can are clean and secure.

At just over 4 years, the battery could be shot.

Does it do this after you have driven a few miles, stopped a few mins (at shop/supermarket) and got in?

Yeh. but  sometimes the warning lights come on when your driving.

Those lights all, to me, indicate a possibly intermittent problem with a wheel speed sensor - since all those systems rely on correctly knowing vehicle speed.

The lot?

Mainly the management light, esc or stop/start error.

Depending on how regular this occurs, then that helps as intermittant faults are harder to tie down.  There should be lots of fault codes logged in the car, and it might be an idea to locate someone with VCDS or similar to read what's stored, and also do some live data logging.

Cheers I'm going to change the battery see if that works (if not at least I got a new battery on it ).hopefully I can get the management light to stay on for a vag test, cos everytime I go down there the light disappears.

This will need adapting to the car as you have stop/start (unless you are very close in Ah) say 68Ah to 70Ah close.

Process if you want a look

If you want advice on battery, then post up a picture as dealers will want your whole wallet, whereas you could buy online and fit yourself (if Ah is close and keeping same technology)

I'm thinking battery or wheel sensor too. Deep load test for the battery, and VCDS or OBD11 to read fault codes.

Got a battery from  kimbers exactly the same as the one I'm taking off hopefully that'll cure the problem 🙏

Now after a couple of weeks of being problem free the same problem has come back  wondering if its alternator??

I think it's time to stop guessing and get a fault code scan done rather than throw the parts cannon at the problem.

See VCDS Owners for a list of friendly briskoda VCDS and VCP owners who can help doing a fault code scan without having to pay a dealer.
