Alignment

Featured Replies

Right so I’ve had my alignment done on my fabia 4 times 2 different places, each time the steering is way off to right. Nothing looks bent, checked all the bushes etc. Had the same problem with my last fab. Was aligned on a Hunter system both times. 20mm spacers, lowered but not slammed. Not bothered about the camper or caster too much as it was all in tolerance at the other place. Just want the steering wheel straight. Any suggestions.

It was only ten minutes off which is one sixth of one degree. That wouldn't be noticeable at the steering wheel.

They should be locking the steering wheel straight then adjusting both sides until they're aligned, it looks like they're just adjusting one side a fraction then asking for their money.

It's up to you to stamp your feet and complain!

I’ve been back both times straight away and even had my money back. I am starting think it’s down to poor workmanship. Possibly not locking the wheel in place. But I’m pretty sure I’ve watched them do it.

Have you checked your tyres for wear and pressure? Is there a brake rubbing? Have you ever loosened or removed the subframe, or is there a chance someone has in the past?7

Yup, that will cause it for sure, the figures make it look like it's the rear misaligned but I reckon its the front, I think they have to set one axle as the datum and choose the front but that is the one where the crossmember gets moved around.

I do mine with laser spirit levels clamped to the wheelrims and check each axle against the doors at the B post, the rear was skewed by a tiny amount but the front way out after I had removed & refitted the front crossmember for a clutch change, I thought I had got it back exactly right but the car pulled hard to the right and I had to have the steering wheel about 10° off centre where it had always been.

Update

I ended up taking the car else where and they had pretty much spot on. May be ever so slightly off to right but a lot happier now.
