Felicia 1.6 clutch/brake problem?

Featured Replies

I have been driving my brothers Felica 1.6GLXi with 43K on the clock this week, whilst the mondeo is off the road having its auto gearbox fixed. I dont know if these are problems or if they are all like it, so here goes.

1) When we test drove the car the clutch slipped slightly, the garage have adjusted the clutch and it now doesnt slip but the biting point is right on the top of the pedal travel. Can the pedal be adjusted in some way to lower the biting point or are they like that?

2) The brakes feel fine under normal braking around town, but dont really inspire confidence if you brake from 70MPH on a dual carriageway to negotiate a roundabout. They stop fine, just that the pedal feel seems strange, and maybe they are fading slightly with the heat from the speed stop.

1/ I had a similar problem with the clutch on my 1.6 when purchased.

Easy to adjust providing the clutch isn't too worn:

- Under the bonnet, above the gearbox, where the clutch cable connects to the release arm is the adjuster nut (13 A/F?). Close by on the cable is a relitavely big cylindrical metal piece.

- Once you have located this nut all you need to do is remove the metal securing clip (between the thread and the arm) and then adjust the nut (clockwise I think) until the clutch pedal has come down to the same height as the brake pedal.

- Re-fit the metal securing clip between the thread and the arm.

Job complete - This makes a big difference to the driving of the vehicle.

2/ Not sure but brake fluid change might make a difference if all other components are OK.

Hope this helps.
