Coilover adjusters...

Featured Replies

So as my MOT has expired I've been looking around the car to make sure she is fit and ready to get a fresh ticket for another happy year of hard abuse *(cough)* I mean happy motoring.

I've found though that my rear coilover adjusters are missing (I assume a previous owner took them out to get the car lower), this means that when the car is on jack stands, the bloody springs slot out of their seats. I can only presume, this will be a massive fail on the test.

So from what I understand is I have 2 options, try and get hold of a set of adjusters only or fork out and replace the entire set of coilovers.

Basically what I'm asking here, is does anyone know if there is a 3rd option? To stop my having to completely re-adjust the suspension all round to suit the rear height change? I'm not precious about keeping it this low, but just exploring the available options as they stand right now.

The springs can't come out when the car's on its wheels so the tester won't know that the springs are too short and can come loose on full rebound.

On a standard Mark 1 the spring and shock are separate so you could always go back to standard just for the test if needs be.

They also let the wheels hang during the test though.

Yeah I mean as long as they have a pit it should be fine, but if they're on a 2 poster then it's going to be a no-go

Even over a pit they jack it off its wheels. There would be no way to check the balljoints etc otherwise.

2 poster ramps (the type with swinging out arms) are not authorised for MOT testing, it has to be a drive on platform with jacking beams, a pit for larger commercial vehicles with similar jacking beams.
