Which MDI cable to control Android?

Featured Replies

Hi. Had a search, but could only see ' Android Auto' topics.

I'd like to use my steering wheel volume plus/minus and next/previous track buttons to control Spotify on my Android phone.

I currently plug in the headphone socket.

Can anyone advise the correct MDI cable to purchase please, there are so many different ones!

Thanks,

Paul.

It would help if you could tell us which model you have and which audio system is fitted.

🤣 yes, would probably help...

It's a Fabia 2012, here is a pic of the stereo and media port.

They made leads specific to Iphones, Ipods etc and the old mini USB......

Most have been superceeded now especially USB has now changed and soon Apple have to follow suit with using it.

What I would suggest is Skoda P/N AZO800002 this is Media in to USB socket, so you can then use whatever lead with whatever phone you charge with and connect that way, also means the phone is closer to you or in a more user friendly place.

Equivalent number is 5N0035558 (image attached)

NOTE :- some features "may" not work as updates / software moves on with the phones and the media in device lags behind.

Brilliant, thank you. I'll give that one a go. 👍

Did the cable work?

I've looked at several and most of them say fabia up to 2013 🤷‍♀️

Or that the cable won't play music from an Android.

It's probably fair to assume it did work or the OP would have been back for further suggestions.

I don't think VAG made several USB to media port cables so stick with the VAG part listed here and as long as you have a separate media port it should work ok.

Didn't work in mine. 👎

Just says not supported.

I'm not sure how to find out what will work 🤷‍♀️

I can't see anything compatible online

Did you edit your USB preferences in Android settings on your device?

Hi Sep...

So it won't switch. I tried all the different options. 😭

In the usb preferences, it just stays on "this device". It won't change to connected device. 🤷‍♀️

I tried my phone and an ipod touch.

I've read that it might work with a usb stick but I think I'm gonna return it. 🫤

So will an aux cable work with both phone and iPod?

Thanks for your help 🙏
