Fabia MK2 2014 - loud noise

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am having a problem with my 2015 Fabia MK2. It’s really noisy when in low gears, higher revs, for example going up a hill.

mechanic originally thought it was exhaust as it sounds throaty but it turns out it’s fine. Has anyone experienced this in the past and can help?

Welcome.

I will let a mod know this is here so they can move it to the Fabia Section.

?

Is it one of the last registered Mk2 Fabia so in 2015 but built in 2014 & what engine has it?

Sorry, I am inexperienced on this forum lol. Thanks!

I believe it’s the TSI model. 1.2 engine, 81KW / 110 BHP

i believe it was, as shows as a MK 3 on parts websites but is definitely a MK2z

OK.

There were 105 ps 1.2 TSI Mk2 Fabia which have timing chains but no 110 bhp 1.2 TSI Euro 5 emission .

So maybe it is a Mk3 Euro 6 emissions with a 1.2 TSI and with a Cam Belt.

A picture is needed or info off your V5c, or the build plate in the spare tyre well.

?

How many miles has your car done.

If the mechanic that had the car can not say what the noise is anything here will be a guess.

Thanks.

sorry added the details on an image. Hopefully that helps!

I appreciate I’m being vague, my mechanic has suggested it could potentially be a gearbox or drive shaft but wasn’t confident enough to change and could be something different…

was just hoping someone would have been in this position before!

It must be a Mk3 Fabia.     The mechanic could be right, or maybe very wrong,  i think you should go see another one.

?

How many miles done and what servicing has it had done and when was it last serviced and do you have any record of servicing from new?

So cam belt replacement schedule in the UK was in 2020.

Spark Plugs were at 4 years / 40,000 miles.

EDIT.

@Ashton43

I see it has just had a MOT and has done over 91,000 miles.

If the Cam Belt has not been replaced maybe worth considering getting it changed.

Thank you for your help, sorry locked myself out of account.. It’s done 92309 miles in total. Full service history.

I took your advice and took to another mechanic, they advised getting gearbox reconditioned because the noise is only made when in gear at higher revs.

It doesn’t make it when in a high gear and no acceleration though.

it’s coming from the gearbox area, noise getting louder. May have to bite the bullet and take advice lol.

You might have to if they are correct on the gearbox.  Go to a gearbox specialist first though.    You are going to need to consider getting the cam belt changed as well.

Well as general advice, IME transmission and exhaust noises sound totally different. Cheapest thing to check first would be to go to  a local garage or good fast fit place (they do exist) and ask them to check if the exhaust is striking the body or transmission.
