The SOS call/infotainment failure again. Can Skoda sort?

Featured Replies

I have a three year old Scala. Last spring the SOS call feature failed and my entire infotainment system went dead for a day or two alongside the SOS call button turning red and the warning message telling me the SOS system had failed etc. I was on holiday down near Whitstable in Kent. On the way back everything suddenly went back to normal. Didn't happen again until last week, this time at home. The whole lot was out for a week and then, after I'd booked it into Skoda to sort out, it all came back again for no apparent reason.

I know this is a common fault but has anything really happened at Skoda/VAG to fix this with a software tweak or anything? The car is booked in at the end of the month but if the fault is not present at the time I take it in, will they shrug their shoulders or is there a known remedy that will stop this happening again? Thanks for any help or advice, Cheers

With Karoqs this seems to trigger a software update by the dealer. Mine went from 0270 to 0276, and the fault hasn't returned. I know the current software versions are at least 0306 now, but dealers only seem to update a car when you report a fault that the update should clear. If your Scala is out of warranty, it'll be interesting to see if they accept it's a design fault that is still covered or not.

Well it was within warranty when the fault occurred again so they've said they will do it under the warranty. How do you know what software version your car is on?

Is the infotainment software something you can update yourself from the USB ports or something?

Check this whole thread out to see if you have a possible update.

On my Karoq it's on the Menu / Settings / System Settings / Information screen on the Amundsen screen.

There is a thread on here talking about updating the software yourself via a USB port, but the thought of trying that and it failing to update fills me with horror! I dread to think what the cost would be of getting a dealer to reinstall the software on a car if you brick it!!

The update file is also the emergency recovery file in the same update.  So you have the same tool/file as the dealers.  As long as your power is stable throughout and your USB stick is not broken (bad sectors) then it will be smooth sailing.

So this is what I get on the screen….how do I find out if this is updatable? And where do I find the update? Thanks everyone 85E28F94-B6FB-4026-A73F-1E00C51D5B10.thumb.jpeg.d0978fa01320e4eaf0db96613b57fa14.jpeg

Try holding down your Menu button for 10 seconds and look around in the engineering menu.

I get this, same software number? If that’s what mu sw is?5BAD2C64-44E2-4957-BD50-91CF024DA5A8.thumb.jpeg.291d4bd8b8c95a09a7dde271f5857e9f.jpeg

I have MEN3_EU_SK370_P0113P, which is MU SW 0469

and loads of others that might update higher than what you have

So that one you quote is definitely an update but they may be later ones?

How can we tell? Is there any more data I can get off the system?

Some of the firmware updates have a list which states which software trains it updates (supported)

Sadly the MEN3_EU_SK370 series do the oppostite, they state only blocked trains, so it makes it hard to know if the update will apply or not.

I can only send you a file and you try it.

As for your problem, not sure that this will update your OCU/SOS fault, as this update I believe is not baked into this like MOI3_EU_SKMQB.

How easy is it to instal? I looked at the italian video but obviously it didn't show the usb side of things? What happens if it doesn't work? Will it simply not load? Obviously I share CJJE's misgivings about the operation!

It will either work or not, and it has emergency boot built into it.  Usually only time users have any issues is when they have a duff SD Card or USB, which has happened.

So you just stick it on a usb c and follow the Italian video? How long does it take?
when I update software on my Mac I always backup the current version first. Is there a way to do this?

I have a different system, but yours will be similar to the Italian video.  Just it won't update the OCU system.

I do have your current version of the firmware, as well as newer.  But I don't think I have ever seen a backup feature.
